Causeway Cottage is an 18th century small stone-built cottage renovated for 21st century needs. It offers a warm welcome to visitors to Cartmel. The cottage is situated on a busy corner street location in the village of Cartmel. Pubs, restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Cartmel Priory and the Racecourse are 5 mins walk away and there are lovely fell walks from the door. On the edge of the Lake District it is 10 mins drive to Newby Bridge gateway to the Lakes and Mountains where Coniston and Windermere are easily accessed within a half hour drive. Holker Hall and Gardens are a half hour walk away (5 mins drive) and Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are a short drive away. The coast can easily be accessed at Grange over Sands, Flookburgh, or at Holker Hall’s beach (parking available) just down the road at Cark. Grange over Sands is popular for Accross the Bay walks, for it’s promenade and gardens, Art on The Prom, Bandstand music programme and it’s great range of cafe’s and individual traditional shops including several baker’s butchers, green-grocers, deli, chocolatier and many more. Cartmel is very busy during Races weekends and guests not attending the Races are best avoiding stays at those times. Please note that the cottage has no outside space. The Pig & Whistle next door has a pub garden overlooked by the bathroom window.
The cottage is the childhood home of Matt Frahm who now lives in LA. I look after it for him and manage the bookings. The cottage is furnished with some antique pieces from Matt’s family and has recently been refurbished with new sofa and armchair and new carpets. Please do get in touch with me for further information.
Cartmel is famous for its stunning Medieval Priory and village, its charm and the Horse Races held during the summer months. It offers fine dining at L’Enclume, Rogan’s and a variety of restaurants and country pubs. There are lovely walks up on the fells with mountain and sea views and beautiful woodland to explore. The Lakes and Mountains are a short drive away (15 mins to Windermere). Famous gardens include Holker Hall and Gardens a half hour walk away across the Race Course (5 mins drive) Levens Hall and Topiary 15 mins drive and Sizergh Castle and Gardens 15 mins drive. Kendal is 20 mins drive. Grange over Sands with its Promenade walks, Ornamental Gardens, Art on the Prom, Bandstand summer programme and a host of lovely traditional shops and cafe’s is only 5 mins drive. Grange has stunning bay and mountain view walks from Hampsfell just up the road on the way to Grange and forest walks from the town up through the Community Orchard. There is a lovely beach on the road to Holker Hall with views of the mountains and coastal walks (parking available). Other nearby beaches include Arnside and Silverdale on the other side of the bay. Ospreys can be viewed at Ulpha nearby and Grange is popular with bird-watchers. There is also a collection of unusual wild-fowl in the pond at Grange Ornamental Gardens. Ulverston offers lovely individual shops and cafes, art and crafts, book shops, Canal Foot - delightful coastal area with lovely walks, walks up to the famous landmark Light House and the Quaker museum. It also has a cinema and theatre and festivals throughout the year. Bo’ness also has a traditional cinema with recent film showings and Windermere offers a small cinema with a great vegetarian restaurant.
