Causeway Cottage is an 18th century small stone-built cottage renovated for 21st century needs. It offers a warm welcome to visitors to Cartmel. The cottage is situated on a busy corner street location in the village of Cartmel. Pubs, restaurants and shops are within walking distance.
Cartmel Priory and the Racecourse are 5 mins walk away and there are lovely fell walks from the door. On the edge of the Lake District it is 10 mins drive to Newby Bridge gateway to the Lakes and Mountains where Coniston and Windermere are easily accessed within a half hour drive.
Holker Hall and Gardens are a half hour walk away (5 mins drive) and Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are a short drive away. The coast can easily be accessed at Grange over Sands, Flookburgh, or at Holker Hall’s beach (parking available) just down the road at Cark.
Grange over Sands is popular for Accross the Bay walks, for it’s promenade and gardens, Art on The Prom, Bandstand music programme and it’s great range of cafe’s and individual traditional shops including several baker’s butchers, green-grocers, deli, chocolatier and many more.
Cartmel is very busy during Races weekends and guests not attending the Races are best avoiding stays at those times.
Please note that the cottage has no outside space. The Pig & Whistle next door has a pub garden overlooked by the bathroom window.
The cottage is the childhood home of Matt Frahm who now lives in LA. I look after it for him and manage the bookings. The cottage is furnished with some antique pieces from Matt’s family and has recently been refurbished with new sofa and armchair and new carpets.
