Cysgod Bach – A Cosy Garden Cottage for Two
Cysgod Bach is our charming one-bedroom cottage, set within the peaceful grounds of Cysgod y Coed. With its private garden patio, cosy interiors, and light-filled conservatory, it’s the perfect place to relax after exploring the mountains or Bala’s lakeside paths.
Although located on the same site as our cabin, Cysgod Bach has its own entrance and outdoor space, giving you a completely self-contained retreat with privacy and comfort at its heart.
Ideal for: peaceful getaways, walkers, cyclists, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a quiet base close to Bala.
Caban y Saer – A Contemporary Cedar Cabin by the River
Tucked away at the edge of the garden, Caban y Saer is a beautiful cedar-clad cabin built by my dad, Mick, a carpenter by trade — the name means “Carpenter’s Cabin”. Overlooking the babbling River Hafesb, it offers a calming deck, modern design, and a real sense of escape, all just for two.
Though located on the same site as Cysgod Bach, the cabin has its own secluded setting and outlook, making it feel wonderfully private and special.
Ideal for: romantic breaks, nature-immersed stays, special occasions, and those who love the charm of a unique handcrafted space.
Hi, we’re Mari and Dan 👋
Since 2022, we’ve been proud to call Cysgod y Coed in Llanfor, Bala, North Wales not just our home, but our family business too.
Cysgod y Coed was lovingly created by my mum and dad, Mel and Mick, over 25 years ago. They built the house, cottage, and log cabin here in the Snowdonia National Park, pouring their hearts into welcoming guests from near and far. For them, running holiday cottages was never just about providing a place to stay — it was about creating a peaceful retreat where people could slow down, breathe, and feel at home.
Now that they’ve retired, Dan and I are honoured to continue what they started. We look after two self-contained cottages just for two, set within the same tranquil grounds but offering complete privacy. Staying here means enjoying the same warm Welsh hospitality, thoughtful touches, and calming surroundings that guests have loved for decades.
Whether you’re exploring Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), hiking the mountains of Snowdonia (Eryri), or simply unwinding under the trees in our garden, we can’t wait to welcome you to our corner of North Wales.
