Property information

A sweet cottage in Falkenham, tucked away amongst farmland down a no-through road, with beautiful views over the fields and marshes to the River Deben. This is a great base if you want to explore popular coastal Suffolk but return to somewhere that feels incredibly rural and peaceful.

Neighbourhood information

There are a number of different footpaths and quiet lanes leading straight from the cottage so that you can explore the immediate area. The Stour and Orwell walk follows the track past the farm and you can follow this down to Felixstowe Ferry, a small fishing village at the mouth of the river. From here you can either continue along the seafront at Felixstowe or take the passenger ferry across to Bawdsey to explore this small village and further afield on the Suffolk Coast. Alternatively, you can follow the River Deben up river to Waldringfield where a drink and some tasty food await you at The Maybush Inn. Closer to home in Falkenham, there is an award winning delicatessen, The Artisan Smokehouse which is 30 minutes walk from the cottage. Besides being able to buy the award winning produce there is also a cafe on site so you can sit and enjoy some smoked salmon with a glass of something cold. Felixstowe has a number of interesting places to visit. There are traditional seaside amusements for all ages, a leisure centre with swimming pool, no less than eight seafront gardens which date from the 18th Century and are Grade II listed, and of course the Blue Flag beach and promenade. There is a strong historical and maritime presence at Landguard Fort with over 450 years of history on display and how the fort was adapted over the centuries to cope with defending the coastline. The area also boasts a nature reserve along with a bird observatory. Not to mention the largest container port in the country - fascinating to watch even if you're really not interested in that sort of thing!
