Lavender Cottage is well located in Clare. It´s a cozy little cottage with a modern, very well-equipped kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a comfortable bed. We had a great week there and would book it again.

Lovely property, small but nice and clean. Had all that you would need for a short stay. Nice walk very close by. Not much choice of food and drink in the village but other nice locations nearby.

Lavender cottage retains many of the original 400 year old features with some modern touches to make your stay a comfortable one. There is seating for four adults to dine indoor or outdoors in our courtyard garden. Upstairs are two double bedrooms both fully carpeted with comfortable beds. the bathroom is modern with a large walk in rain shower and directional shower head. Lavender cottage is cosy in the winter, and great to hang out in the summer enjoying the swifts flying over head amongst the ancient buildings of Clare. The medieval market town of Clare is on your doorstep, with its pubs, independent shops, tea rooms, castle, museum and impressive 14th century church. For nature lovers the River Stour Valley is just a four minute walk away, with plenty of open countryside to enjoy. If you want to relax and unwind for a few days, there is no need to use the car once you arrive, its all within walking distance from your front door, simply get lost in Clare's ancient history.
Lucy and Nick both come from creative backgrounds and have took over Lavender Cottage in May 2024. With an eye for design, Lavender cottage is decorated in a simple way using key items and original artworks to make this place stand out from the usual looking holiday rental.
Clare is dominated by two main features, the castle ruins, situated in Clare Country Park and St Peter and St Paul church, listed as one of Britain’s finest 1000 churches. A short walk into Clare Castle Country Park takes you up a wandering path around the motte and bailey castle to a 100-foot-high view across the rooftops of Clare and over the surrounding countryside. Looking due north, you will see the impressive St Peter and St Paul 13th Century church, a short walk back through the town will take you there, the church is open every day from 10am-4pm. Clare Priory is another short walk along the River stour to one of England’s oldest religious houses, built in the 13th Century. The Priory offers retreat days and other events throughout the year. It is worth popping in to visit the Clare Ancient House Museum before exploring the 130 Grade ll listed buildings around the town and the ancient earthworks of Clare Camp, a settlement that suggests it’s origins from the early Iron Age. For nature lovers the Stour River is just 100 yards from Lavender Cottage. You can explore the river along the Stour Valley Path, a path that stretches from Newmarket to Cattawade on the Suffolk coast, just 200 meters from your front door. Beyond Clare you have the open landscape of Suffolk, this area is very quiet with no major roads for some miles, just country lanes that take you into picturesque villages like Cavendish just ten minutes drive away, where you will come across countless thatched buildings many painted in the colour Suffolk Pink, just as Lavender Cottage is.
