The Old Bakehouse, Penryn: a lovely cottage set back from the road with a private garden and parking. There is a cosy wood-burning stove with a large glass front and a bathroom fitted with an extra-deep, double-ended soaking tub. The property is located right in the centre of town, which means there can be some noise. The “best fish and chip shop in Cornwall” is close by, selling locally caught fish, as are Indian and Chinese takeaways. Dogs are welcome at the cottage. Parking for the property is at the back of the cottage and accessed via Chapel Lane. For guests with vans or those less confident with narrow lanes, there are two public car parks 2-minute walking distance from the Cottage. Premarin Car Park offers free parking 24/7, and Saracen Car Park is free on Sundays and overnight until 9 a.m. From Premarin Car Park you can cut through the little lane next to the Mariners fish and chip shop. We are just across the road from there.
Penryn is one of Cornwall's oldest market towns with buildings dating back to Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian periods. Positioned at the Penryn River estuary, this charismatic Cornish town has a proud history as a medieval port, trading fish, tin, copper and granite. Today it is a centre for sailing, so you’ll find boatyards and chandlers, as well as some wonderful galleries, cafes, bars and shops to enjoy and there are some lovely local walks. Less than three miles downriver is the famous seaport of Falmouth with its sandy beaches, maritime heritage, coastal walks, art galleries, shops and harbourside pubs and restaurants. And should you wish to explore further afield, then the cathedral city of Truro, the surfing beaches of the north coast and the Lizard Peninsula are all within easy reach. The cottage is in walking distance to Tremough Campus - this campus is used by both the University of Exeter in Cornwall and University College Falmouth.
