Company information

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property information

Built in 1850, this former coach house is now a cosy yet spacious holiday home in a delightful rural location close to Coniston Water which offers comfortable accomodation for up to 5 guests. Towards the tip of Coniston Water, in the peaceful hamlet of Blawith, just south of Coniston, lies a charming cottage with historic links. Built in 1850 and originally a coach house for the large country house nearby. Middlefield Cottage has been carefully converted, retaining many of the original features. Perfectly positioned, Middlefield Cottage is perfect for those looking for peace and tranquillity. The cottage enjoys delightful views across the unspoilt Crake Valley and up towards the Coniston Fells. Lake District hot spots such as Coniston, Hawkshead and Ambleside are just a short drive away whilst the market town of Ulverston and its many amenities is also worth a visit. The east side of Coniston Water is easily accessible and offers many hidden spots to picnic on the lake shore, launch a canoe or just simply watch the world pass by. In essence Middlefield Cottage makes a fantastic base for couples, friends and families looking to explore the local area.

Neighbourhood information

Local Activities A fantastic playground for families and outdoor enthusiasts, the Crake Valley has it all. Beacon Tarn, near Water Yeat offers explorers the chance walk and picnic or even take a quick dip. Cyclists of all abilities will revel in the trails and bridle ways that snake their way across the valley including the top rated Blawith Loop. Access to Grizedale Forest, which caters for a wide range of abilities including the famous North Face. The Coniston Launch has various sailings to the south of the Lake, some giving interesting commentaries about the legendary Donald Campbell who raced his boat "Bluebird," on these waters, and also about the "Swallows and Amazons" adventures. The Launch stops at the Torver Jetty, also at the Lake Bank Jetty at Water Yeat, and Water Park at Nibthwaite and at the Parkamoor Jetty. The X12 bus travels west of the Lake for those who would enjoy a car free day. However for drivers there is plenty of easy, and mostly free places to park near the Lake on both the south western and eastern shores, where there are many quiet shingle bays from which to enjoy the water. You can launch canoes and small boats, go paddle boarding or wind-boarding, Swim, or just relax in the clean, fresh air and admire the stunning views of the high fells.
