This cosy country cottage is set on a beautiful farm in the Scottish Borders but is only 30miles south of Edinburgh and 15 minutes from amenities and historical attractions in local towns. Legerwood Farm has been in the family for 4 generations, for over 100 years. This cottage was lived in by Mrs Moll, the farm's dairy woman in the 1950's. It has been lovingly restored into a cosy country cottage, perfect for a small family or a romantic get away but has all the home comforts needed for a comfortable stay. Moll's Cottage has 2 upstairs bedrooms - one has a king sized bed and one has twin beds. The stairs up to the bedrooms are rather steep so please bear this in mind before booking. Unfortunately, there is no space for a travel cot in the bedrooms (unless the twin beds are not being used) and due to the steep stairs we do not recommend the cottage for those with toddlers. Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen/dining/living area with a table seating 6, smart TV, trunk of games/puzzles and log burning stove (logs provided). The bathroom is also located on the ground floor with a shower over the bath. There is a utility room with washing machine and it is perfect for dogs to dry off after a walk. 2 dogs are welcome to come and stay in the cottage (additional dog charge applies). The cottage's heating and hot water is generated by our biomass heating system on the farm and so there is plenty of hot water for everyone and the cottage stays warm and cosy even on the most dreich days! The garden to Moll's Cottage is fully fenced which makes it child and dog safe. The cottage sits on the edge of our farmyard and so there is always something to see be it machinery or livestock moving around.
Jo and husband Peter live across the farm yard from Mrs Moll's with their children and friendly dogs. Peter is the 4th generation to farm at Legerwood, and his parents Bill and Joan live here too. We have 3 full time employees who work and live here as well, so there is always someone around to assist or ask questions to during your stay. We offer farm tours for guests who are interested and at certain times of year we can provide lambing experiences or trips out to see the combine harvester at work.
Legerwood a family run farm 30 miles south of Edinburgh in the Scottish Borders. It has a small community of houses and cottages which once upon a time were lived in by all the farm workers. Legerwood has a kirk (church) part of which is one of the oldest in Scotland, dating back to 1127. There are wonderful walks around the farm with stunning views of the surrounding land. There are also lots of historical links in the Scottish Borders that are easy to explore with Legerwood as your base. Legerwood is easily accessible from Edinburgh or Newcastle airports and Berwick-Upon-Tweed train station. The Borders Railway that goes to and from Edinburgh is only 15 minutes away. We recommend driving or hiring a car if you want to make the most of the surrounding Scottish Borders and all it has to offer.
