History lovers will enjoy a walk around Oakham Castle (about 15 minutes' away), The Great Hall is famed for its for its unique collection of over 230 ornate ceremonial horseshoes donated by Peers of the Realm (royalty and nobility such as Dukes, Marquis’, Earls, Viscounts, Barons and Bishops). The well-preserved Iron Age hill fort at Burrough Hill (LE14 2QZ – about 15 minutes' away) and has some stunning views across the Leicestershire countryside. Journey into outer space at Leicester National Space Centre (LE4 5NS – about 25 minutes' away). With six interactive galleries, the UK’s largest planetarium and the iconic 42m high Rocket Tower, this award-winning National Space Centre is an out of this world experience. Twinlakes Theme Park Water Park in Melton Mowbray (LE14 4FF - about 25 minutes' away) includes All Weather Play Zones and a Zoo Farm. Rutland County Museum in Oakham (LE15 6HW - about 18 minutes' away) Tells the story of England’s smallest county – a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. Easton Walled Gardens (NG33 5AP – about 40 minutes' away) is part of an estate restored in the early 21st Century with parkland walks, rose gardens, borders, shrubberies and an excellent tearoom.
