I've named my holiday home 'The Homestead' after a holiday park my family stayed at regularly while living in New Zealand. I have many lovely memories of our holidays there & wish to provide a comfortable base for happy memories here. Back then there was a black & white tv in the communal lounge & the only place to swim was in the sea. Here there is a smart tv so you can use your own streaming services. There is an indoor pool and jacuzzi as well as the sea only a few minutes walk away. Double glazing and heating throughout also makes for a warm stay whatever the weather. Tea and fresh coffee (for the plunger) is supplied along with tasty biscuits. I also supply towels & bed linen as it's lovely to walk into a holiday home that is all set up & put the kettle on after a long journey. While the holiday park is closed, for direct bookings, in the winter private owners & their guests can still make use of the facilities available. The Homestead is only a few minutes level walk from the Restaurant/Bar & Swimming Pool/Jacuzzi. There is a ramp as well as steps leading up to the second level. The coastal footpath, running alongside The Waterside Holiday Park, offers great views as you walk to either Goodrington Sands Beach or Broadsands Beach which is 25 minutes in either direction. You'll see in the photos some of the fantastic views from the headland & the two coves that are also only a few minutes walk away. I'm always happy to advise guests who would like suggestions about local attractions and enjoyable activities in the area. You will find a folder full of leaflets when you arrive & more can be found in the on site laundrette. I also like to keep an eye out for any special offers to pass on. The passing steam train is often cited as a highlight & becomes 'The Train of Lights' in December. With Agatha Christies home 'Greenway' also nearby I thought I'd add a touch of 1930s glamour to give guests somewhere unique to call home during their stay.
I enjoy seeing the positive feedback I receive from guests & it's always heart warming to hear about their experiences while on holiday. I recently received a letter & drawing from one of my younger visitors which was lovely. My sons grew up in the area & have many fond memories of days out to local beaches, Paignton Zoo, winning prizes in the arcade on Paignton Pier & ferry boat rides from Paignton to either Torquay (where we'd go Ten Pin Bowling, enjoy the wave machine at the Riviera Centre or playing crazy golf). In Brixham we'd swim in the outdoor saltwater pool & eat fish & chips with views of the harbour or dress up as pirates, along with many others, for Brixhams Pirate weekend in May. We'd have a great time at Splashdown (as the waterpark at Goodrington Sands is now called); we'd ride on the giant swan pedaloes & more recently have fun on the bumper boats during the summer. We've played on the 9 hole golf course above Broadsands Beach & have taken picnics or eaten at The Venus Cafe. Crabbing in nearby Stoke Gabriel is still a family tradition as is a visit to Totnes night market in December. I still love seeing excited children as the steam train passes each beach. Their faces as passengers wave back is always a pleasure. There are ideal spots, along the coastal footpath towards Goodrington Sands for waving & photo taking. I also enjoy staying at either of my holiday homes between guests. My second holiday home is at 113 on the same site & has a more Morrocan decor. I regularly walk along the coastal path & enjoy swimming in the sea. Now it's colder I often swim in the indoor pool & play pool in the bar. I've enjoyed hearing the singers in the bar on a Saturday night &, as a friend loves Bingo, we're planning to go to that one Friday night soon. My recent Thai Curry, and G & Ts, in the restaurant was very tasty & I look forward to one of their delicious takeaway pizzas during my next visit.
The reception sells basic groceries, some wine & beer, and ice creams. Both The Coop supermarket & The Spar are nearby with more supermarkets only a 10 minute drive away. As well as the restaurant & terrace The Waterside Inn is a few minutes walk away. The Harvester Restaurant is slightly further away at Goodrington Sands. I recently enjoyed the food at Cantina there & the live music on Thursdays & Saturdays has always made for a good time. All manner of takeaways deliver to the holiday park so you are well catered for whether you'd like a good time out locally or a more relaxing time in. Both Paignton & Torquay are full of bars, restaurants & cafes. Totnes offers a wide variety of independent cafes & restaurants as well as an eclectic array of independent shops further up the high street. The Friday & Saturday markets are well worth a visit as is The Rare Breeds Farm & cafe. Open seasonally it offers a perfect view of the steam trains coming & going. The view from the bridge near Vire Island is one for the photo collection (& often missed by visitors). The Riverboat from Dartmouth comes to Totnes & many visitors have said that the local Totnes Museum is one of the best they've ever visited.
