Amalthia Cottage is a romantic rental just for two. Though small by US standards, it’s totally charming, with a cute mezzanine bedroom, a pretty garden and of course a private swimming pool for those long Mediterranean summer days. This is also a great spot for anyone who likes to explore; a stroll up to the ancient village of Paleochora, one-time capital of this tiny island, is a must for the fabulous views and fragments of ancient frescoes still visible in the ruins of the church. Just a 5-minute drive from Vathy town and its delightful waterfront, Amalthia Cottage sits in a timeless Mediterranean landscape above Dexa Beach, notable not only for its Blue Flag status but, according to legend, for welcoming Odysseus when he returned from The Trojan War. For a cold beer on a hot day, you’ll find a simple beach bar a short stroll along the shoreline; everything else you may need is available in Vathy, with its excellent selection of shops, bars and tavernas. Perfectly private and separate from neighboring Arethusa Cottage, the two properties also work well for two couples traveling together.
