The property is very comfortable, decorated with taste and maintained with care. Super clean. There is an entire history connected to the property and the owners are great at explaining it. The sweet wine and the home-produced jams taster great!

The red house was erg...

Company information

We are Alkmini & Nikos, the second generation to proudly run Montofoli Wine Estate with our family. The company Myrtoa s.a., which owns Montofoli was established in 1986. At present we are active in hospitality by renting out four of five historical villas on the estate and in producing dry and dessert wines from our 4 acre-vineyard planted in 1987. We will be here to guide you through the long history of the estate, with proof of activity since 2.500 BC. and share with you the authenticity of our beautiful Karystia.

Property information

Montofoli Wine Estate, is a place where time simply stops. A member of the Historic Hotels of Europe,it has been inhabited by Hellenes, Venetian, Byzantine, Catalan, Franks, and Ottomans; each civilization has left its distinctive mark on the estate that you can see until today. It has been the center of non-stop activity since times BC, "Palaia Chora" (=the old town), blessed with running water, a land rich in nutrients and strong winds that protect from bacteria growing in its crops. During your stroll in our gardens you will meet many different kinds of citrus trees, lemons, oranges, bitter oranges, bergamot, tangerines, kumquat and the rare babylon grapefruit, brought from Egypt and planted here by the previous owner. You will find almond trees, apricots, apples, khaki fruit, figs, grapes and vines that produce our awarded dessert wine "Ktima Montofoli"! The four historical villas on the estate are unique in character, decoration and spirit. The Dovecote is built on the ruins of Roman baths (note the concave entrance) and was used to host the Pascha's stables during the Ottoman occupation. The ceilings are of Karystian slate and wooden beams and the floors are all in white marble. The Red House, built at the turn of last century (1900s) is a classical example of aristocratic Neoclassical architecture in Greece (note the high ceilings) and is decorated with Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Belle Epoque details. Villa Amfithea, the restored sheep stables is the most modern villa on the property with undisturbed views of the bay of Karystos and a large covered terrace. The Belvedere, set high on its terrace, is a classical example of Karystian architecture of the 1950s (when the new city plan of Karystos was drawn) and has a covered terrace and a veranda open to the evening skies. All four villas can house 4 people in comfort, are fully air-conditioned and have access to the shared pool, the Estate gardens and the vineyard. You will find free Wi-Fi inside and outdoors.

Neighbourhood information
