The Lodge started as a private simple getaway, in the remote mountains of Bali with No electricity, No english, No sealed roads. Surrounded by nature and nurtured by a few local subsistence farming families. ​ Starting with grasslands we slowly planted everything you see at the lodge, with over 150 different edible plants all grown organically. We added bungalows slowly over time as friends & family came to stay. Our 6 bungalows are all situated privately with tropical garden & mountain views, they were all hand crafted and each is uniquely different, using woven bamboo and local timbers throughout. Our lodge is a very natural setting with a focus on sustainability woven into all areas of the lodge including housekeeping, which is chemical free & our permaculture gardens, providing produce to the kitchen. We are happy to introduce our chemical free swimming pool using a natural system of plant filtration and wood fired steam sauna. All our staff are local villagers (all live less than 20 minutes from the lodge) who know & love the area. We train our local full time staff onsite & collaborate with our village, offering freelance work to locals as: trekking guides, masseuses & drivers.

Our lodge is immersed amongst a sustainable farming community. We are surrounded by a "food forest" of Cacao, vanilla, coffee, tropical fruits and spices. The local Balinese culture is alive and well in the gentle mountain slopes of Batukaru. The rainforest is just 15 minutes walk away from the lodge - this is the largest wetland tropical rainforest in Bali, great for hiking from 3 - 7 hours. This is a remote location far away from tourist centres, shopping & nightlife. You are welcome to join local ceremonies for an authentic glimpse into Balinese culture. Our community is very friendly & welcoming. From the lodge you can walk freely to see rice paddies & join in on farming activities such as: planting or harvesting rice, picking coffee, making palm sugar or harvesting local fruits. We also offer day car trips to closeby thermal hots springs, traditional markets, waterfalls & Temples.
