Via Aliberti, also known as the "Basket Weavers' Street" due to the numerous artisan shops that used to build and sell wicker baskets, was the main street of the Jewish ghetto in Asti. Even today, it retains its original appearance with its low and narrow buildings, arcades, and craft workshops. We are amidst the alleys and squares of the city center, where medieval churches and Baroque palaces compete in beauty. The shop windows showcase traditional products such as Asti Spumante, Barbera wine, cured meats, cheeses, hazelnut sweets, and many other irresistible specialties. Strolling in the shade of the towers, you will reach the Collegiate Church of San Secondo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria (the largest in Piedmont), Palazzo Mazzetti (a noble residence and home to the Civic Art Gallery), and Palazzo Alfieri, the birthplace of the 18th-century writer Vittorio Alfieri. Nearby, you'll find the Crypt and Museum of Sant'Anastasio, a fascinating Romanesque site, the Troiana Tower, the tallest in the city (44 meters), and the Roman Domus, a gem of local archaeology.
