The Borgo Umbertino was born where once was the Neapolis (new city), the Greek magno and the Roman Municipium. In ancient times there was only countryside here, very few houses and many small chapels. Then, around the XIV - XV centuries, the monastery of the Poor Clares (SS. Crucifix), the lazaretto - Carmine began to sprout where the pardons sprout in the Holy Week, the convent of S. Antonio and S. Francesco and from the XVIII century . the complex of S. Pasquale. This eastern area was thus kept until the 18th century, when Monsignor Giuseppe Capecelatro (Archbishop) erected his villa, bringing out numerous ancient Greek finds.
