I should specify that I am from the beautiful city of Siena too ( famous for the Palio which is twice a year, on July 2 and August 16 ) and that, just a few kilometers from Siena, going towards Montalcino and to be precise in Monteroni d'Arbia, I have another house named “ Super attico della Brigata Spendereccia ", available on Airbnb for short and long-term rentals during the year. I and my friends have founded many years ago a second Brigata Spendereccia and, since when we were young, we were always inspired by the style and the philosophy of life shared by that group of guys from Siena in the half of the 13th century . I sincerely hope, my dear guests, that you will try to share those ideals and to follow that philosophy of life, even if only for a few days, during your stay in il Super attico della Brigata Spendereccia.
The attic,around 200 mq,is located in the last floor of an historical palace from the end of XVIII century. Why "BRIGATA SPENDERECCIA"? The Brigata Spendereccia (or godereccia) was a company, of rich and spendthrift guys, born in Siena in the second half of the 13th century. This association of timewaster friends is mentioned by some poets as Dante Alighieri, Guido Cavalcanti and Boccaccio. They were twelve guys, from the most noble and rich families of Siena, that decided to put togheter their money and to give themselves to the good life and crazy shopping : Benvenuto da Imola says that in two years they spent 216,000 florins, an amount that simply compared to the gold value of the florin corresponds to a current amount between 12 and 15 millions of Euro. It seems that they had redapted also one statute in which was written,as their purpose,to finish all their money and that,once they reached that puprpose,they broke up.The house in which they had headquarter was known as “ La Consuma ", and this building still exists in Siena.
