After graduating from Tokyo University of Agriculture and working in the education sector for a year, I was captivated by the mountains of Nagano, seeking new challenges. The grandeur of nature and serene landscapes stole my heart, prompting me to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind. Connections made during a local internship gave me the courage to take this new step. Together with acquaintances, we launched a project to address local challenges, focusing on revitalizing vacant homes.
This project is still in its infancy, and through daily trial and error, we strive to create better spaces. Our goal is to offer more than just residences but places where people can truly relax. Leveraging our knowledge of architecture and interior design, we aim to propose solutions that align with the region's characteristics and needs.
CLA-CHIC is a project to renovate old private homes and historical buildings and revitalize them as lodging facilities while respecting the unique culture and history of the area. It provides facilities that combine modern comforts and conveniences while preserving the traditional Japanese atmosphere and practices.
Meanwhile, I am studying to improve my skills in photography and pastry-making to better showcase Japan's beautiful locations.
Property information
Guesthouse TANDEM is a small, cozy inn located in the heart of Matsumoto, Nagano, built around the concept of “traveling as if living, in your own way.” A renovated traditional Japanese house, it retains the warmth of wooden beams, earthen walls, and natural airflow, while incorporating modern design and function. More than just a place to stay, TANDEM is meant to be a “second living space,” where guests can feel like part of the neighborhood.
TANDEM is also a perfect base for exploring the Northern Alps, with easy access to Kamikochi, Norikura, Hakuba, and Mt. Kobuchi. You can head to the mountains in the morning, walk the ridgeline, and return by evening for a drink in the town. Whether you seek quiet time or outdoor adventures, this space offers a well-balanced retreat.
Our guest rooms feature natural cedar wood and Japanese-modern design. The main room accommodates up to 4 adults with a thick double bed, a compact sofa bed, and futon bedding. A veranda allows for peaceful moments with tea or a book. The use of solid cedar helps regulate humidity year-round, offering a naturally comfortable and eco-friendly space.
Guests share the kitchen, living room, shower, and toilets. We kindly ask for mutual respect in these shared areas, and for quiet hours after 11:00 PM. One of our staff members is also raising a young child—thank you for your warm understanding as we welcome you into our home-like space.
