The Kyoto Samurai Machiya is a series of Town Houses located in Kyoto. Kyoto is a treasure house of traditional arts and crafts, and the samurai armor is one of them. The series began with the purchase of one Samurai armor found at the antique market at the Toji Temple. Nishijin-ori kimono belt, Kiyomizu-yaki pottery, Ichimatsu dolls, Hotei-san statues, lacquerware, Uchikake Wedding Kimono, Noh masks, and many other crafts are on display inside our machiya. Each room is equipped with air conditioning and floor heating on the first floor to keep you comfortable in any season, despite the heat and humidity in summer and the chill in winter. Each Machiya has a tatami mat room to enable you to experience the lifestyle of the people of Kyoto, to sit or to sleep on it.
The owners are a binational couple, a French photographer who loves Japan and his Japanese wife. They regularly go to the antique markets and auction sales to collect Japanese arts and crafts. Patrick's passion is also to take photographs of the Hanamachi, the geisha districts. If you find a photo in one of our townhouses, it is the owner's work. The design and decoration of our townhouses are also very much a condensed version of Japan, which they love. The motto of this house is "Traditional Machiya with Modern Comfort", and we're confident you will enjoy this unique experience living inside this house.
As the name shows, the townhouse is located near Gojo Street, Higashiyama District. Sanjusangendo Temple, the National Museum, and the Chishakuin Temple are also nearby, and the Kiyomizu-Dera Temple and the Gion area are within walking distance. From the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, walk down the Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka pedestrian areas, peeking here and there at the shops. At the end of the slope, you will see the Kodaiji and Entokuin Temples, and then head north to Yasaka Shrine and the Maruyama Park. On the way back, how about enjoying a Kyoto-style Kaiseki dinner in Gion? Also, the bus service is very convenient, and you can go to the Heian Shrine, Ginkakuji Temple, Nishiki Market, Karasuma-dori Street, the Aquarium, and the Railway Museum without having to change the bus.
