At Sample Kobo, we are a long-established food sample manufacturer founded in 1992. So why did we start a lodging business? It all stemmed from our desire to attract more visitors to Gujo Hachiman. Our goal is to be a lodging that embodies the spirit of Gujo by focusing on genuine connections with each guest rather than being a large facility. Food samples, which now decorate restaurant storefronts, originated with wax craftsmanship. Today, materials have shifted to vinyl resin and silicone rubber, evolving into an artistic field. Like these food samples, we at "Sample Kobo" are constantly evolving and challenging ourselves in various ways, with food sample creation at our core! The food sample souvenirs we developed, like keychains and magnets, are all meticulously handcrafted one by one. In the same spirit, we strive to provide thoughtful hospitality to each guest. As inheritors of food sample craftsmanship, we will continue to explore new areas while dedicating ourselves to preserving and developing local industries. As part of this commitment, we hope that our conveniently located museum can serve as a relaxing spot for visitors enjoying Gujo Hachiman tourism.

New opening in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture, September 2025! This lodging facility is operated by the famous food sample shop ‘Sample Kobo’ in Gujo Hachiman. Staying guests can enjoy a free ‘Food Sample Making Experience’ and visit the ‘Retro Art Museum’! (Reservation required) Guests who wish can also be guided to the Sample Kobo factory! See the normally unseen process of sample making! Please contact us after booking if you wish to participate. This spacious two-story inn, renovated from an old folk house, features a private sauna for guests! Two bathrooms and two toilets are provided. The guest kitchen is fully equipped with an IH stove, microwave, oven toaster, water server with coffee maker, dishwasher, and more. In addition to the first-floor living room where everyone can relax, each of the two bedrooms on the second floor also has a separate lounge area for your comfort.

Our food sample workshop and shop, "Sample Kobo," is just a three-minute walk away! All guests staying with us receive a complimentary food sample-making experience at "Sample Kobo" (reservation required) We also invite you to visit the "Retro Art Museum" inside Sample Kobo. This impressive museum is packed with over 3,000 nostalgic retro items. You can play games and use the jukebox, too! Other attractions within walking distance include Gujo Hachiman Castle, Sōgi Water, and Yanaka no Komichi. There is also a bus stop nearby for convenient travel. For Gujo Hachiman's famous Chinese cuisine, try the renowned Matsubaya! Other nearby dining spots include Izumasaka for local Gujo cuisine, Daihachi for Hida beef and game dishes, and Katagiri for their must-try yakisoba noodles. Come experience Gujo Hachiman, where you can enjoy the changing seasons: cherry blossoms blooming profusely around the castle and along the river in spring; the Gujo Odori dance performed late into the night with the sound of geta clacking in summer; autumn foliage and seasonal flavors in fall; and skiing or snowboarding in the mountains in winter.
