This town is historical and was founded in 1876 and was the centre of a number of engagements during the Gun War of 1880.
About 8 km north of Hlotse (Leribe), the footprints of three- and five-toed dinosaurs can be seen in the bed of the Subeng River.
The Leribe Craft Centre offers a wide variety of mohair items woven from the hand-spun yarn for sale.
