My name is Mohamed Ait Bounacer. Born and raised, I am of Amazigh heritage and I am immensely proud to have our family generation’s roots based in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, Morocco, in the village of Imlil, the hiking gateway to Mount. Toubkal, and just one hour from the bustling city of Marrakech. As I think back to my early childhood growing up in the mountains, I reminisce guests visiting our family home where we would welcome and host their presence during their backpacking expeditions and their travelling excursions providing us with immense opportunities experiencing such gatherings. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have travelled along with my father giving me additional opportunities to explore gaining further experience and memories. From late nights camping in tents in the Atlas Mountains enjoying traditional Amazigh entertainment, to camel riding whilst watching remarkable sunsets and sunrises in the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert, have built everlasting memories.

About Amazigh Family Riad We are a Berber (Amazigh) family based in the heart of the Atlas Mountains. In our language, Amazigh means “free people,” and freedom, peace, and hospitality are part of our way of life. At Amazigh Family Riad, we warmly welcome travelers from around the world to stay with us, share our traditions, and enjoy the calm beauty of mountain life. Our guest house is located in the peaceful village of Arghan, just outside of Imlil. From our terrace, you’ll enjoy amazing panoramic views of the valleys and peaks—it’s the perfect place to relax after a hike or a day of exploring. ⸻ How to Get to Amazigh Family Riad • By Taxi from Marrakech: The taxi will drop you in Imlil, and from there it’s just a 10-minute walk to our riad. The path is easy to follow. • By Private Car: Drive directly to Arghan village. Just follow the map to the parking area. From there, it’s a 3-minute walk to Amazigh Family Riad. • With Our Transport Service: Our driver will drop you very close to the riad, and it’s just a short walk (3 minutes) from there. We are not located in the busy center, but in a quiet mountain village. Once you see the view from our terrace, you’ll know it was worth the journey. Making your way into the Atlas Mountains will give you a whole new perspective of life in Morocco. The cooler climate and star-filled nights are worth the experience alone, although spending time in a remote Berber village is certain to linger just as long in the memory. This is where you’ll find some of the best hiking trails and 4x4 routes in and around the base of Mount Toubkal (4,167m). Just 45 minutes from Marrakech but a world away in terms of rugged natural beauty, the Atlas Mountains are one of Morocco’s highlights, in every sense.
