Although it was very cold the cottage heated up quickly with the heaters. The bedding was lovely and without an electric blanket we slept warm. Mountain view with snow was wonderful.

We loved staying in an historic house in an historic town. It really added to the authenticity of our trip. The shed where we could store our bikes was also very convenient, and the kids enjoyed a few walnuts from the walnut tree in the back...

Loved the stone cottage which was furnished in a sympathetic period style

This was a nostalgic stay for us as this was my husbands Nannas house in the fifties and sixties and we were delighted to see the furnishings and decor were in keeping with its past and the large walnut tree was still there. We felt some...

Loved this little cottage for its old time feeling. Plenty of room, warm and nicely decorated. Brought back memories of grand parents home.

As stated in the information on the website, the property does not offer mod cons. It is a traditional stone cottage with limited modern additions. That said, the property was clean, bed was comfortable with an electric blanket and warm quilts....

We liked the history. It was very cosy once the heaters were put on. Very pretty cottage. The bed was warm and comfortable.

Dalton’s Deed carries the quiet spirit of Roxburgh’s early days. Built during the gold-rush era, the home is linked to Daniel Dalton, a miner who arrived in the Teviot Valley in the 1860s, drawn by the promise of gold along the Clutha River. Like many who stayed, Dalton soon realised that fortune here was not only found in the ground, but in putting down roots. Set on Scotland Street the house became a place of permanence in a town shaped by hard work, river life, and close community ties. Only a short walk to the Village and Clutha River. Bicycle hire is available in town.
Welcome to Dalton's Deed. My name is Yolanda and I am the new owner of this quaint wee gold miner's cottage. I am originally from South Africa and have 2 beautiful children and 3 granddaughters. As this cottage needs a lot of TLC I am in the process of improving and upgrading as much as possible to make your stay more enjoyable.
Roxburgh is a charming historic town in Central Otago, set where the Teviot River meets the mighty Clutha River. It's story began during the 1860s gold rush when prospectors arrived seeking fortune and established the settlement originally known as Teviot. As gold mining declined, the area transformed into a thriving orcharding and farming community, a legacy that continues today with renowned local stone fruit. The construction of the Roxburgh Hydro Dam in the 1950s further shaped the town and created scenic Lake Roxburgh. Today, Roxburgh offers visitors a peaceful riverside setting, rich heritage, historic buildings, and a strong connection to its gold-mining past and agricultural roots. Roxburgh is a favourite stop for cyclists, sitting right on the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail and close to the stunning Roxburgh Gorge Trail. These well-maintained trails follow the Clutha River through orchards, historic gold-mining sites, and dramatic Central Otago landscapes. Riders can enjoy gentle, scenic sections or longer day rides, with plenty of spots to stop for photos, picnics, or a swim in summer. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or just out for a relaxed ride, the trails offer a peaceful way to explore the region at your own pace.
