Old Mill Café or the Tairua Beach Club are situated at the base of the hill if you want to eat or get your coffee while you look out to the estuary. Tairua has a beautiful surf beach with the estuary opposite. It’s a great place to surf, kayak, paddleboard and swim. The Kayak and Dive hire shop is by the boat ramp. You can also take a ferry or Kayak to Pauanui. The Tairua township is about a 30 minute walk or 5 mins drive where there are shops, supermarket, post office, doctors, hairdressers, library, pharmacy, restaurants, cafes and bars. A golf course, playgrounds and tennis courts are also near to town. There are many walks on Paku Hill, to the summit, around it, down to the rocks, caves and the beach. Tairua is located within a 30minute drive to Whangamata, Thames, Whitianga, and Opoutere or a 20 minute drive to Cooks Beach, Hahei, Hot Water beach and Cathedral Cove.
