FAQs about hotels in Bucharest

Where Modern Meets Old

A fascinating mix of old and new, Bucharest is one of those cities where you can find a futuristic structure of glass and steel next to an old church, separated by a Communist-style massive edifice. Not overwhelmed by its dark past, the city is now turning its optimistic face towards the West.

Undergoing constant modernisation processes, the city continually changes and new modern structures pop up in the city centre and beyond. Great examples are the stunning Basarab Bridge, Europe’s widest cable-stayed bridge, and the City Gate Towers.

Whilst admiring the new, don’t miss out on the old classics, like the Parliament Palace, the world’s second largest building, with over 3100 rooms and impressive marble interiors covering 330,000 m². Make sure you admire the view from Nicolae Ceauşescu's balcony!

To fully appreciate the city’s long history, from Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula) to the ’89 revolution, the city offers free guided walking tours, giving you a great opportunity to discover all the city’s secrets. And spot all the best shopping venues!

Before you land at Bucharest Airport, just 18 km from the city centre, make sure you check what Booking.com has to offer: from hotels to apartments, just a few clicks away!

    A very interesting city.

A very interesting city. We are vegans and there were enough restaurants to eat at. Bucharest is easy to get around, we used the underground, and Ubers were reasonably priced. We visited the Parliament building which was very interesting.

Old town has a lot going on.

Old town has a lot going on. You can just walk around that neighborhood and some of the adjacent ones looking at 19th-century buildings for hours. Also, two good traditional restaurants in old town: Hana Lui Manuc (oldest in town) and Caru' cu bere (a little kitschy). I found two interesting cocktail bars: Sip and Fix Me a Drink -- but if you just want ordinary drinks / beer, there's endless options. Outside of old town, there is an outdoor museum displaying a traditional village, called Dimitrie Gusti, which is nice to walk for >2 hours. The museum of contemporary art (in the back of the Palace of Parliament) was worth a couple of hours (nothing great in the collection but a nice walk around). The Palace of Parliament itself is ostentatious in size, but there's more compelling architecture in Sinaia at Peles Castle, two hours north by train.

It’s a very big city, I struggled to get my bearings.

It’s a very big city, I struggled to get my bearings. There’s not a lot of sightseeing to do compared to other cities I’ve been and a lot of the city is run down, like the buildings look awful, the pavements are missing slabs, quite a bit of dog mess in places and in the night time the lighting is quite poor. But there are some gems in the city too, loads of nice bars and restaurants which are fairly cheap. The people were nice and friendly. I learnt a very minimal amount of Romanian before I went, just the basics and they seemed to really appreciate that. Some recommendations, for a full day out head to Therme Bucuresti it’s honestly incredible. Old town in general is great for bars but I enjoyed Pasajul Macca-Vilacrosse the most. It’s an arcade full of bars. And for food and drinks the best was Linea closer to the moon.

A charming capital city that is affordable.

A charming capital city that is affordable. Not a lot to do apart from drinking and eating if you remain in the city centre but very tourist friendly. We didn't stay long enough to do a day trip to see the castles which we would recommend. We enjoyed a visit to Therme - the largest spa in Europe and would recommend this.

    A city of gems!

A city of gems! Although alot of parts are run down and a lil dirty, that can be found anywhere in the world! This town holds a lot of character, history and many little gems from the grand cafe van gogh to the murals covering tall buildings. I found it full of art and therefore very beautiful. It also has very well known (almost word famous) spots like the therme spa located just past the henri coanda airport and the caruseti carousel bookstore. You'll never be bored in this town! I personally enjoyed their plant based restaurants and the stunning architecture. It's very easy to get around, walking, lime scooters, ubers and buses/trams. It is also very cheap in comparison to the UK and therefore I had a very affordable holiday without needing to be tight with my money.

Hotel Lido in its current incarnation continues the tradition of prewar Bucharest with its ample rooms, decorations, smaller almost intimate common area facilities. We felt transported in time and we liked the modern twist on its patina in the present design. Location is excellent and the Brasserie adds to its atmosphere. Step out of the hotel and you are in the charming, baroque prewar Atheneum District with ghosts of the Romanian Art Deco still handsome.

Great hotel within walking distance (10-15 mins with luggage) of Bucharest North station, and 25-30 mins of Old Town/Parliament Palace/Central Park. We did most of our sightseeing on foot from here (though we did put in the miles!). Helpful staff who minded our bags and sorted an early check-in for us. Nice buffet breakfast with a decent selection of cereals, fruit, cheese, meat, eggs, yogurt, tomatoes etc. Decent all-round budget hotel.

I travel a lot, but Radisson Bucharest has made it into top 10 hotels I stayed in. The staff is great (especially the receptionists and the bar/ restaurant staff.) Cleanliness is done spotlessly in all areas, not only in the room. The breakfast is amazing with a huge variety of dishes for every taste. It's indeed a 5 star hotel which will for sure exceed your expectations.

The kitchen was well equipped and great living and dining space. Only a 10 minute walk to Old Town area. There was parking, which is incredible in Bucharest.
