My Mom and her siblings were born and raised in the mountains outside of Cluj. My Mom's oldest sister, Lenke, married into the Basa family raising 5 children during the collective period of Romania's history. I've visited the family and the Basa farm numerous times over the years and have been extremely impressed with my Aunt’s, my cousin's, and their family's hard work, entrepreneurial spirit, resilience in a corrupt and difficult life under communism, and their struggles to embrace capitalism after 2008. When Lenke passed away in August of 2017, I brought my Mom to the funeral and saw that the farm right next door to them was for sale. After much soul searching, I started Harvest House Transylvania with the dream of bringing my relatives, as well as the village community, economic opportunities and community assistance that are just not available to them in rural Romania. It hasn't been easy, but has definitely been a very rich, mind blowing and educational experience. I'd like to share my home, gardens and farm with you, give you an opportunity to see Transylvania through the eyes and stories of the locals, as well as partake in delicious farm to table Transylvanian cuisine.
