Try to avoid this city if possible!
Try to avoid this city if possible! They have nice pictures of some areas in travelling brochures but this is like 5% of the toal city. Mostly this city is heavily broken roads, mud-walkways, overcrowded, traffic jams and polluted air. When flying to Tanzania try to be it that city not too long. Fly or drive away to your next destination ASAP. And remember - prefer to use (locally represented) agency when travelling longer distances in Tanzania. If something happens with the vehicle (sooner or later it will happen) you have someone who might help you or at least worries about you.

I liked the outskirts of town - 1hr away from the airport...
I liked the outskirts of town - 1hr away from the airport was where I spent most at. The main city was a bit overwhelming and stressful at times, i.e. police officers hunting after foreigners and questioning your presence etc. I had two occasions where I was stopped just like that and the officers asking heaps of questions like where you come from, what your travels purpose was, what do you do, and if you're married (I'm a female solo traveller). I answered all the questions succinctly & clearly. However these officers just somehow would find ways to make it go longer than necessary. One even accused me of not having the right document (I was like what do you mean with the valid passport and visa?!). Anyway, he wanted to take me to the police station and court of law. I had a local driver with me who talked him out of it by giving him some shillings. And he turned to me and said "it's solved". Make sure you always carry your passport or ID documents with you. It's always helpful to know at least a local that you can reach out too when you find yourself trapped in tricky situations. Not much to see either in DAR. Maybe spend more time outside of the city.

Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit.
Dar es Salaam is wonderful city to visit. It has many interesting sites and amazing high-end restaurants to choose from. We had a wonderful experience at the AKEMI REVOLVING RESTAURANT where my spouse thoroughly enjoyed Lasagna. My grilled chicken was not exactly up to the task but passable. The service was great but the hotel manager Mr. Lorenzo Sachin could do with some PR. He moved around the restaurant totally ignoring some tables (such as ours) while busying himself with customers on other tables. Mr. Sachin, customer equity is important more so in hotel and restaurant industry... Mwenda (Kenya)

I was there for a wedding reception, which was a lavish occasion, put on by my son's in-laws, as the happy couple had married in the UK, where they live. Dar is all things to all people, teeming with life and humanity in all its colourful fluidity.
There is wealth and deep poverty, but with it all, people are proud of their country and most have a friendliness and humour in all their dealings. There is always something to see or watch.
There are local buses, which we were discouraged from using, but taxis are easily obtained and the drivers are knowledgeable as to how to get around the city. Above all, don't think you can hire a car. Driving in and around Dar is only for the very experienced.
Stay in the best hotel you can afford, as the ones on the beach overlooking the Indian Ocean are truly paradise.
This hotel was by far the best one we have experienced in Tanzania. The location is very interesting in a typical african city centre. The room is clean and has some really comfy bed. We really enjoyed the restaurant, which was always opened for you to go and grab a bite for very friendly price. The stuff was amazing, always ready to help. Also, once you come here, don’t forget to check out the roof top with some really cool views. We would really recommend this hotel to everyone travelling to Dar. We will be definetely back
The airport shuttle is the best that I have experienced anywhere. They are prompt, very helpful. The most import is that always on time. The room was very clean and the staff is prepared to help you in anyway that you need. Best is a trustworthy shuttle, clean/comfortable room, and no Dar traffic getting to and from the hotel. Also, the hotel is secure. The Airport Transit has become our preferred accommodation for our travel and the who travel with our company.
I really like all the small touches. The big lockers with individual key (never seen so big ones, could fit two people inside!), they offered towel (very appreciated), their western breakfast filled with fresh fruits was a bless, clean room & comfortable bed, AC, easy access by moto bolt or public transport. The Manager is very friendly and helpful with information. Tottaly recommend. Great value for money. If I'm back in dar es salaam will stay there again for sure!
We rented an apartment in the Chelsea hotel. it was one of the cleanest places I’ve ever stayed. The staff was helpful. The location was convenient. Quick walk to the coast. What I liked the most though? The food!!! Wow! We ate dinner here and the curry was one of the best we’ve had. With food like that, you don’t need to go searching out of the hotel. Also, don’t forget to grab a beer and catch the sunset from the rooftop. views for days! 😍
It is a perfect hotel for those who want to enjoy Dar es salaam. It's in the middle of the city so easily can get everywhere(ex. Coco Beach, Ferry terminal, main bus terminal, and even airport) within 15-30mins. Available hot water and air-conditioning 24/7. Wide and clean room with cozy bed. Moreover all of the staff in this hotel are very welcoming and friendly. I've got lots of help from them :) Thank you for your help, Fahadi.
The staff are nice and polite. The hotel is comfortable, big rooms, clean, they provide bath soap, shampoo, shower gel, toothbrush, towels, water, kettle and fridge, have elevator, nice balcony even it's not directly to the beach, few minutes to the beach, food are okay and they have nice pool. Overall we like our stay here and recommend if you want to stay in the quiet part of Dar es salaam. And thank you to all stuff 🙏😍
Good sides of the Hotel: The staff is very good they do their best for customers, especially the internet guy who helps me a lot while having trouble connecting to the internet.
Clean: hotel and rooms are very clean, and housekeeping works very well.
Comfort: Hotel is comfortable beds and rooms.
Good for F/P
If ı will come to Dar Es Salaam, yes I want to come and stay at this hotel with my own Nutella and Ethernet cable.
-Very good and reliable WiFi, best I’ve had in a hotel in Tanzania (5 stars alone for that)
-Nice and friendly staff
-Good and central location
-Everything I needed was there, it’s no luxury but bed was very comfortable and shower was working. Also there is a small fridge
-everyday fresh bedsheets/towel wouldn’t have been necessary for two nights but proves cleanliness of course
I enjoy staying at the Landmark Resort Hotel. This is my third stay here.
The staff are nice and friendly 😊.
Rooms are large and comfortable.
The pool and beachfront is awesome. It's very large.
The seating on the veranda is very comfortable.
Housekeeping is awesome. They changed bed linens daily, and mop the floors everyday. Cleanliness is top notch.
Big room, clean, good bed, nice linen, good air conditioner, nice bath room with good water pressure, perfect cleaning of your room , very very nice stuff.
Close to Samaki Samaki, Q bar and Elements.
Close to Coco beach, Slipway, Havoc , Fish Market etc.
Best Hotel in the best area of Dar es Salaam , Masaki peninsula.
Best Hotel for men solo travellers.
We stayed on the 7th floor. It was nice because you couldn't really hear the noise outside. Higher floors are a good idea in Dar Es Salaam because much of the city is noisy. Clean, comfortable room. Nice hot water. Good breakfast with lots of options.
The location was the primary reason we chose the hotel. We needed to be able to get to the Nyerere Airport quickly. We had previously stayed at the Giraffe Beach Hotel, a far superior hotel but farther away from the airport.
The neighborhood was lovely and quiet even though it is only a few minutes' drive from the city centre. The apartment was extremely spacious. It was clean and we felt safe staying there.
The rooms are really big. The neighborhood is good with several eateries including the popular Samaki Samaki. It is also close to the city centre if you want to get a ferry to Zanzibar.
