Olive Cottage is a modern, compact wooden studio complete with a living roof tucked away in a tranquil garden. Relax on the large wooden deck and enjoy the sunset; retreat under the little olive grove with a good book; or, take a stroll to the beach. Table Mountain National Park is next door, as well as three restaurants, Foragers Deli and Camel Rock Deli to cover your culinary necessities. Olive Cottage makes a great base to explore the Cape Peninsula from.
The space
A 26 m² timber-framed pod-house incorporating strong sustainability and sense-of-place considerations into the design and construction. Olive Cottage embodies a modern easy-living space that is energy efficient and easy on the natural environment. It has triple insulation in the walls and floor to improve heat and sound insulation. All windows are double-glazed. The natural vegetation within the footprint of the dwelling was translocated to the living roof. Yes! There is a living roof using only indigenous vegetation. All timber used in the build was sourced from local, sustainably managed suppliers, and the hot water runs off an energy-efficient electric induction geyser. The result is a snug, quiet and environmentally gentle space that stays cool in summer and cosy in winter.
Inside, the cottage is open-plan with a comfortable double bed, full kitchen (gas two-plate hob, full-size fridge, kettle, toaster, and a multi-function air-fryer/convection microwave), a washing machine, and a bar-style counter for working or eating. Sliding doors open onto a private deck that overlooks lush trees, giving the space a peaceful, woodland atmosphere.
The beach is 10-minute walk along the Cape Point Nature Reserve fence (if you're lucky you might be able to spot some Bontebok, Zebra or Ostriches) and down the wooden boardwalk - no need to drive.
Hi, I’m Matthew! I live just a street away in Scarborough, and I’m always happy to help if you need anything during your stay - otherwise I’ll give you full privacy to enjoy the space.
When I’m not hosting, you’ll probably find me surfing, running along the coastline, reading, or spending time outdoors. I’ve put a lot of care into creating a calm, comfortable space where guests can slow down, enjoy nature, and feel at home.
I love sharing what makes Scarborough special, from the quiet beaches and great coffee spots to beautiful walks and sunsets. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I enjoy hosting it!
Scarborough is a remote seaside village on the Cape Peninsula nestled within the Table Mountain National Park. It is the most south-western settlement on the Africa continent! It is a 15 minute drive across to Simon's Town and just under an hours scenic drive to the Cape Town city centre.
Scarborough is a destination for the nature or outdoor enthusiast. There are endless opportunities for outdoor activities including surfing, kite surfing, sailboarding, cycling (road or mountain), snorkelling and freediving, fishing or spearfishing, hiking and horse riding. Or you may prefer to join a yoga class or have an aromatherapy massage with one of the local therapists.
There are 4 local cafe/restaurants to choose from. The Hub, The Camel Rock, the Whole Earth Cafe, and the Sunshine Cafe.
Foragers Deli and the Camel Rock Deli stock a good variety of kitchen basics and deli food, excellent bread, dairy products, fresh fruits and veg, ready cooked meals to heat and eat; soft drinks and much more.
Scarborough is well located to the best that the Cape has to offer in terms of ocean sports. Legendary big-wave surf spots the Crayfish Factory and Sunset Reef are 10 minutes drive. For the kite/sailboarder Scarborough is the closest accommodation to Platboom and Witsands. Spearfishing charters can be arranged if you are looking to bag some Cape Yellowtail or Yellowfin Tuna off Cape Point.
Our mountain offers kilometers of trails through unspoilt fynbos all accessible from within the village. Longer and more challenging mountain walking is available throughout the peninsula. Start in the village or travel to the neighbouring Cape Point section of the Table Mountain National Park to access breathtaking vistas and beautiful nature.
Or just relax on our beach and soak-up some Cape sunshine. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the cottage.
