Loved the outdoor baths, the whole place was emaculate. Quiet location 5 mins walk to town and 2 mins to the heli hike depot! Great and luxurious place to relax and catch up on washing 3 weeks into our 7 week campervan tour!

Excellent standard, this place is like a hotel not a lodge (at least our room was). Great value for not much money - actually it was our best and cheapest stay during two weeks in New Zealand. Very nice kitchen with a free coffee from a coffee machine, free popcorn, free welcome scone:-) Nice personnel. Clean bathroom with cosmetics provided. Even a hot tub included:-) Generally wonderful.

Had such a lovely time here! The room is comfortable and the facilities are simply amazing. You get so many free things such as breakfast, soup, tea, hot chocolate, popcorn and even the jacuzzi is free of charge, simply because they want you to have the best time. The host is super friendly and makes sure you feel at home. I would 100% recommend this stay!

Chris the manager + receptionist of Chateau Backpackers & Motels is just a GREAT HOST! Efficient, kind, generous and prompt to help us with all we needed. We sincerely appreciate his promptness to send us per post on his own costs a super important object (professional working badge) we forgot in our room at the Chateau when leaving to our following accommodation in Queenstown. Definitely awesome!!! We shall certainly come back to Franz Josef when again in New Zealand and we shall reserve once more with Chateau Backpackers & Motels!
