Food cooked by the host’s mother was one of the best meals we’ve had on our 2 month trip! So great we asked for it for breakfast too. Location was very close to national park and we were given a safari for a good price much cheaper than we’d seen online. Host also drove us to our hotel in Ella the next day! Room was spacious and beds comfy.

The Service was amazing, super friendly and really thought through. The food of the owners mum was the best food we had so far, i never had such a good mango Curry. Also the Safari was super, the Driver gave us always enough time to spot animals. In general, you gonna feel like home at this place.

Could not be happier with our stay at Wild Lake Side!!!! Run by such a beautiful couple who make you feel right at home. The cabins are gorgeous and immaculately clean. Being able to watch the turtles, birds and even little crocodiles from the balcony was truly a treat and made you really feel immersed in nature. The food was also a highlight for us - best Kottu we had on our entire trip! We only stayed 2 nights as we were in Udawalawe for a safari but would have easily stayed longer. We absolutely will stay here again if we find ourselves in Udawalawe again in the future!

Dry season (Oct to Dec) is not recommended. Few animals sightings. Many accommodation advertised cheap rate but force to join the safari tours to compensate the revenue. Don't fall into that trap.

Udawalawe National Park was absolutely breathtaking! We saw so many elephants up close, along with buffaloes, peacocks, and beautiful birds. The scenery was stunning, and the experience felt truly wild and authentic — a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and wildlife.” 🐘🌾

Go early in the morning, if possibly choose the 4 hour...

Go early in the morning, if possibly choose the 4 hour safari as this gives you time to really appreciate the landscape. We did two mornings and that was just perfect. On the second day we watched a crocodile try and steal a herons fish. We took our time and had a brilliant guide. Udawalawe is a quiet national park and it’s easy to loose the other jeeps and really appreciate the beauty and wildlife.

Make sure you get a good experienced guide who will show you...

Make sure you get a good experienced guide who will show you all over the park - a 7 hour trip is more likely to find leopards and will take you off the beaten track and away from the many other jeep tours. Also get your tickets on line - a good guide will do this for you and will save queuing for an hour or so.

stay in a locals b&b and book a tour with a local guide. we stayed in a familt b&b and had this most amazing safar in the park for 4hrs with the son of the family we stayed with.. its cost s £20 each and has been one of the best things we ever did. our guide didn't follow all the other trucks and we go to see amazing animals up close and all on our own.

We stayed in a new apartment for 2 people. There was plenty of space and we enjoyed the beautiful terrace. Gayan and his family were great hosts and made us feel at home upon our arrival. They organized a great safari trip in Udawalawe National Park where we saw many elephants, hunting crocodiles and large groups of buffalo. Also, they prepared a wonderful dinner and a delicious breakfast.

I stayed with my partner here in this beautiful newly built hotel. Everything was perfect . Staff went above the beyond to fullfill all our needs . Truly hospitable people. sajee was our guide at Udawalawe National Park and it was a wonderful experience! He has more than 12 years of experience and not only told us very interesting facts about Udawalawe and the various inhabitants, but we also were always on the best viewing spots thanks to Sujee. thanks for everything

Centauria Wild is a large, clean and well located hotel for visits to the Udawalawe National Park. My wife and I had a lovely massage the evening we arrived and then went out for the safari the day after and came back to the hotel to relax. We would recommend for those looking to visit the National Park for safari.

We had an absolutely incredible stay at Jungle Paradise. Chanuka was the best! He is very friendly and super attentive. We booked our safari trip to Udawalawe National Park through the hotel and it was such an easy process. The entrance to the park is really close and our safari guide was brilliant. We stayed in the apartment, which was fantastic and had a gorgeous view from the balcony. The pool area was also great. We could've stayed longer!

We stayed at Rustic Cottages to visit the Udawalawe National Park. Sandeep at Rustic Cottages helped us arrange everything - driver, lunch and park tickets - including picking up our friends at another hotel on the way. The rooms were super nice and fresh - nothing to complain about. Sandeep also helped us with a driver on the day of departure and offered his service via text throughout our stay in Sri Lanka - just fantastic!
