Founded in the 12th century and beloved by Junichiro Tanizaki and other Japanese novelists, Tosen Goshobo is the oldest of the hot-spring inns at Arima. Standing beside the Taki River, it features outdoor hot-spring baths and traditional in-room meals and is a 5-minute walk from Arima Onsen Train Station. The Japanese rooms have traditional futon bedding and a minibar. I liked everything, the staff are superb (thank you Mina, you are the best!), the food is amazing, the hot spring are relaxing, it is very clean and the location is the best in town.

Arima Onsen Station on the Rokko Arima Ropeway is a 6-minute stroll away. Guests can relax and soak in the hot spring bath on site. All staffs are very kind and they provided high quality of services. Onsen was great and also Kaiseki dinner was awesome and delicious. Stay at Okuno Hosomichi was an unforgettable time for us. At the room there were various snacks, fruits and drinks. Thank you and we will stay again when we visit Arima Onsen once again.

Located a 5-minute taxi ride from Sannomiya Station and Motomachi Station, Kobe Minato Onsen Ren boasts a variety of hot spring baths, a year-round hot spring outdoor pool, an indoor swimming pool, a fitness centre and hot stone spa facilities. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property and private parking is available on site at a fee. The price is high, but you can expect a lot. The hotel rooms were great. You could choose if you prefer to sleep in big comfy western beds or prefered a Japanese futon instead (there were two rooms, so enough space to get the futons out). Maybe prepare a bit in advance, so that you know what´s going on, because the English introduction at reception is a bit shorter than the Japanese one, but the staff is always really helpful and can answer your questions. Breakfast and diner were both included and were fantastic. The sushi cook in the evening was so helpful and we tried 2-3 different sort of fish we never had before. And all the other dishes were great, too. Don´t forget to stop in time, so that there is still room for dessert ;o) The onsen on the roof is wonderful. You have an excellent night view and can see the beautiful harbour area. There is an onsen for women and one for men. First there is a big room where you undress and put your clothes in little baskets. Then there is a shower room followed by a pool, a whirlpool and the lovely onsen. And if you want to spend around 200 Yen extra, don´t forget to visit the room with the massage chairs. They are amazing.

Taketoritei Maruyama is a non-smoking Japanese-style accommodation featuring natural hot spring baths for private use and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. From its hilltop location a 15-minute walk from Kobe Electric Railway Arima Onsen Station, it offers sweeping views of Arima Onsen. Love the onsens. We managed to try 3 out of the 8 onsen during our one night trip. There were free flowing apple juice, coffee and hot choclate at the lobby. You can also asks staff to drive you to certain areas. Super convenient.

Situated just 3.5 km from Kinumaki Shrine, Yuraku Kinosaki Spa & Gardens offers accommodation in Toyooka with access to an open-air bath, a garden, as well as a lift. It is set 4.9 km from Seto Shrine and provides free shuttle service. The accommodation features a hot spring bath, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with several private and public onsen, both indoor and outdoor! The staff is super nice and they could accomodate my request for vegetarian meals (they were exceptional, congratulations to the chef!). The room had the private toilet while the shower is at the onsen, as it is traditionally. You are also provided with the yukata and the onsen pass to go to the public onsens of Kinosaki. Would absolutely recommend it!

Boasting a 160-year history and a beautiful garden, Nishimuraya Honkan offers hot-spring baths and Japanese rooms just 1 km from Kinosaki-Onsen Train Station. A gallery with traditional artwork is featured. We knew this was going to be a great hotel to stay at. But it definitely blew way past our expectations. The dinner(s) and breakfast(s) (Japanese style) were some of the best food we’ve eaten in Japan AND I’d even go as far as most of what we’re used to in our day to day life. They also have a magnificent garden that you can stroll in. The onsen inside the hotel was just perfect as well. A tad warm but that’s what’s expected. The staff was incredibly helpful, kind and most of their staff could speak great English. I had the impression the hotel radiated the best of what Japan has to offer. Respect, kindness, helpfulness.
