The location was perfect for us, close to the beach so easy to go down for a swim and just to sunbathe. I enjoyed being away from a large, busy area but close enough to a local shop that has everything you might need. The rooms were spacious and clean. The restaurant was lovely with a good variety of food, even many vegan options (huge bonus!), a huge selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and the cocktails were VERY tasty. The grounds of the hotel were immaculate and added a wonderful feel to the stay. A big bonus was having the tennis court on-site, it was nice to play a little tennis after days of doing nothing but relaxing!

Soul Shine is the best accommodation choice in the Playa Avellanas area. The cabinas are spacious and clean with comfortable beds, good WiFi, air conditioning and a mini-fridge. The pool is a gorgeous place to relax and the grounds are laden with lush tropical flowers and vegetation. The location is amazing - Avellanas beach is a short walk away, and so are many great restaurants, including Barumis (burgers), Lola’s, La Parruja, and La Esquina, a community space with tacos, sushi, cocktails and other tasty food (visit the public market there on Friday nights for local vendors and live music). You can also walk next door and get some gelato! Owners Yael and Roee are the ultimate hosts and will ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. You really are part of the family when you’re here. And a Soul Shine review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning their delicious brunch! This place serves up some of the best food you’ll find in the area – even in all of Costa Rica. Authentic menu items such as shakshuka, Gypsy King, falafels and avocado toast are all served hot and fresh with crispy salad and yummy tapas on the side. The fresh bread is served warm and melts in your mouth! Soul Shine has everything you need for a perfect stay in the Playa Avellanas/Playa Negra area – comfortable rooms, attentive hosts, amazing food and close to the beach and restaurants. Every aspect of this little gem, situated in the Costa Rican jungle just steps from the Pacific, was amazing. We enjoyed its romantic setting, pretty infinity pool set in a jungle garden, stellar hosts--and chefs!--cleanliness and welcoming vibes, as well as their delicious complimentary breakfasts and other gourmet meals which were available to buy. Our hosts were super helpful and accessible. The rooms are equipped to cook for yourself, and there's a small market about a 15 minute walk up the road--though you'd be missing out on the hotels very good and very reasonable restaurant. The area hasn't become another "Nosara/Miami/Hawaii"--not yet anyway--so come now and enjoy the food, the uncrowded beach, the infinity pool, birding and the howler monkeys.

We loved that the beach was right in front of the property. Alejandro, the host, was super kind. Communication was quick and he helped us with everything that we needed. He made our stay (2 adults, one 5 year old and a baby) very comfortable. Parking is right on the property. If you are interested in fishing, the beach is amazing to catch some nice fish: there are roosters, jacks, trigger fish, blue runners, mangrove snapper and more... Locals there know how it's done and fish there daily. They are kind and can help you out. If there are plenty of sardines in the water, safe your time with artificial lures. Get some sardines and fish on the bottom. You won't wait long for a bite ;)

The place looked very nice. The owner put a lot of time into this bus, and it worked out super well! The fact that you sleep in a bus is super funny. The terrace he built in front of the bus is super handy for breakfast or dinner, which you can prepare in the kitchen. There's a roof above the bus, so the bus is standing in the shade and this really helps with the warmth, you can choose to open the windows or use the airco if it gets to hot. Playa negra is the closest beach, you could also go to Playa avellanas, which is only a 10min drive.
