Fantastic villa, only 4 villas very spacious clean and Private, the staff are amazing and really take an interest in looking after you. Food was very good with good variety. We will be back with a few more friends and family. Someone commented about the road in, and how bad it was, it’s actually not to bad as far as Sumba goes, we hired a scooter from the Villas and really explored the area. We would have stayed loner but unfortunately they were booked out. 5 nights was not long enough.

Stéphane took us for a dawn patrol surf sessions with the quads, and spent a lot of time with us on the evening ☺️. We will definitely come back!

Here you can see the Ikat weaving process, beautiful Marapu traditions and architecture and general village life. Eddy, the host has a lot of knowledge he can share because he grew up there. The room has views over the horce racing track. It’s very clean and comfortable.

The owners are incredibly kind and love their dogs (and puppies!) - dog lovers will feel right at home here. There’s no AC, but the cool nights made it perfectly comfortable. The Wi-Fi runs on Starlink, so the connection was strong. And the food… absolutely amazing - probably the best we had in all of Sumba! Don’t miss their famous lobster soup!

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und immer bemüht den Aufenthalt entspannt für den Gast zu gestalten. Die Anlage ist liebevoll gestaltet, naturbelassen und ein Ort der Entspannung. Besonders wurde auch auf Nachhaltigkeit geachtet und der Betrieb ist durch Photovoltaikanlagen und mit eigenem Gemüsegarten. Das Essen war täglich ein Traum.

Die Unterkunft Umarato Villa Sumba hat einen Außenpool, einen Garten, eine Gemeinschaftslounge und eine Terrasse in Rua. One of the most beautiful properties we have seen- the view, the villa and especially the service (Jois was exceptional)- pure luxury. Highly recommended!

We had an amazing stay at Har's place. The location is nothing short of dreamy, with amazing views of the valley hills just in front. Har has constructed all the houses (I recall around 3-4 now) by himself, you can check on his IG for more detail on how he built them! All of them are really comfortable and unique, following the local architecture, blending with nature and each of them providing a different experience. Har is an expert and consultant on organic farming and produces his own veggies that he uses to cook the most fantastic breakfasts you will ever have, super yummy and different everyday, with the plus of overviewing the views directly from your stay. Don't forget also to order dinner from him, much better than eating anywhere else, every meal was amazing. Har always went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable, showed as around his plantation (he plants to reforest the area with a thousand fruit trees!) and the best: he gave us the best tips on the island, pointing spots that are not even in Google Maps and ready to explore. Think on pristine waterfalls, empty beaches, beautiful local villages, hills, etc. Please visit Har and Sumba before it gets ruined by the evils of mass tourism, and please visit with an open mind, it's raw, wild, authentic, and that's why is missing facilities compared with other destinations, but that what make it so unique and special. Thanks so much Har, we cannot wait to visit you again, cannot wait to see your new creations, houses, farm and forest!

Vom Pick-up service durch Agus, über die nachhaltigen Bemühungen in der Unterkunft (sogar mit Bambus-Zahnbürste) und darüber hinaus (soziales, lokales Engagement der Besitzer), einem tollen Aktivitätenangebot - der Ausritt am Morgen bleibt unvergesslich - bis hin zum Essen und dem herausragend freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Personal. Chapeau!
