We arrived early for our check in after walking from JR Nikko Station which was 2 kilometer's uphill and thankfully we were offered a room straight away. The staff were very friendly & accommodating. The star is the onsen - there are 2 onsen rooms in a separate building outside with a maple tree on the walk out. There is a clever light system that allows you to know when the onsens are in use by other guests - plenty of time to be able to use. The onsen rooms are beautifully built and were such a delight to use - there was a private outside space for one of them as well. As the onsens are private, it is fine for people with tattoos to use. There is a large communal area where you have breakfast and can also relax and prepare other meals. Hot and cold water available as well as microwaves and toaster for preparing meals. There is a lovely children's play area as well. Breakfast is served in the morning with a choice of different pastries and drinks that you order the night before. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. Good location - 10 minutes by bus from Tobu Nikko station, 5 minutes by bus to the shrines, temples and Shinyko bridge, 5 minute walk to Daiyu river and about 30-40 minutes by bus to Lake Chuzenji. The beds were comfortable and there was good amount of space for storage in the rooms. Table, chairs and TV in each room.

His English is really good and his sense of humour even better. His knowledge of the area and itinerary suggestions worked very well for us. We’d highly recommend the local izakaya 800m from his place.

The owner, Kumiko-san is very helpful, she drove us to and from the cabin with our luggage.
