Fantastic value for money - what's described by Lighthouse Beach Home as the "budget room" could be "deluxe" elsewhere. Rooms are well maintained and nicely equipped, even if small - still comfortable, and you can shower while looking at the lighthouse through the bathroom window. The family running the place is very friendly and speak good English. Next to the guesthouse they have a nice, quirky restaurant on the waterfront. You can park a tuk tuk or a bike in the garden - sun beds then get moved to the rooftop terrace, which has views to the ocean and the bay.

We had a truly lovely stay at Nomads Hideaway. The villa is peaceful, beautifully designed, and surrounded by greenery, giving it a calm, tucked-away feeling. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care went into creating this space—from the natural materials to the cozy layout and relaxing garden nook. The hosts were kind, welcoming, and available when needed, which made everything feel easy and relaxed. Although it’s just a short distance from Matara and the beach, the villa feels like a quiet sanctuary—ideal for resting, reading, or simply being present. We only stayed for two nights but felt deeply nourished by the experience. We’d happily return for a longer stay next time. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful and soulful place to recharge.

I wholeheartedly recommend this amazing place. I am truly happy that it became our first home in Sri Lanka. I came with my children and initially booked the apartment for 5 days, but we ended up extending our stay for another 4 days simply because we didn’t want to leave. Dakshitha was in touch with me on WhatsApp even before our arrival — he answered all my questions and asked what we might need. Every day of our stay was exceptionally comfortable. His family lives on the property, and they are wonderful, kind people who surrounded us with genuine care. This is not just a room — it’s a full townhouse with a private entrance and two large, beautiful bedrooms. Each has everything you need: very comfortable beds, a desk, a mirror, a wardrobe, towels, and a private bathroom. The balcony deserves special mention — it has a beautiful view of the palm trees, and I loved meeting the sunrise and ending the day there, listening to the birds. You also get a fully equipped kitchen with all essentials: dishes, a fridge, a water dispenser — we cooked every day using the air fryer. And the rooftop… it became my favorite place. It’s completely private, spacious, and perfect for yoga at sunrise or under the stars. There is a drying rack upstairs, and the washing machine is on the lower level. An iron and ironing board are also provided. There are air conditioners in each bedroom. Cleaning was done regularly. Honestly, the comfort felt like a 5-star hotel. But the most important part is the host — his excellent English, kindness, and big heart truly make this place special. We are staying in Sri Lanka for a long time, but from now on, I will confidently recommend this place to everyone visiting. Let your love for Sri Lanka begin here :)

We were really lucky to find this place and spent 11 nights here! If we come back to Sri Lanka, we will definitely stay in Sandbank again. New, clean, comfortable room with cozy terrace. Super-friendly, caring staff - they were always ready to help with ALL our requests. We felt ourselves very welcomed guests - not just regular clients. The place is located in quiet part of Madiha which was important for us - no loud music and parties around. There is no usual beach nearby but for us it was advantage as we don’t like crowds and swimming - just be in the ocean and jump with waves) Just several moments were specific and could be important to know in advance: there is no hot water (it’s not cold of course, just fresh), WiFi didn’t work in our room (n3), just on terrace - but this points just details, not problems and it couldn’t mess up our stay in such a great place.

An Authentic Stay with a Heartfelt Purpose I recently stayed at Sheru Guest in Matara, and it was truly a memorable experience. This charming guesthouse offers more than just a cozy place to stay – it comes with a beautiful mission. Owned by a warm, welcoming Catholic family, Sheru Guest supports the local community by contributing a portion of its earnings to aid underprivileged families in the area. It was wonderful to know that my stay was part of something meaningful, helping fund education, healthcare, and essentials for those in need. The location is ideal for exploring southern Sri Lanka, with Polhena Beach just a short distance away, perfect for snorkeling and enjoying the calm waters. Mirissa is also close by, offering exciting whale-watching tours. The guesthouse itself is peaceful, clean, and thoughtfully maintained. While they don’t serve meals, great local dining options are just a short walk away, making it easy to explore Sri Lankan cuisine. Overall, Sheru Guest provided me with a genuine cultural experience and a sense of home. It’s perfect for travelers who want an affordable, impactful, and authentic stay in Sri Lanka. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Matara.
