I was in the Air Force in the 80s and we frequently came to Zaragoza for weapons training. We stayed out on the base nearby but would frequent the town when off. It has changed significantly in 40 years but was a blast to visit again. Highly recommended, its not even on the Rick Steve's list. Speaking of which, another hidden gem on the road from Madrid to Zaragoza is the Monasterio de Piedra, STOP there, its awesome!

It is placed close to everything you need, and it is also a quiet place. We had croissants and goodies for the mornings and coffee. The place looks just like the photos, dare I say better. Everything was clean and if you think of booking this place, you should do it. It is worth it. The only downside has nothing to do with the place, but with the elevator, it was incredibly small and it did not give us a sense of security, but you can use the stairs just as fine.
