Residence Porto Ulisse is surrounded by tropical gardens on the west coast of Calabria. It offers a rooftop terrace with bar, a swimming pool and a small hydromassage pool overlooking Tropea and the Mediterranean Sea. The accommodation was very clean, with housekeeping tidying the rooms every day. We had a ground-floor apartment facing the garden, so it was nicely shaded. The air conditioning was only in the hallway (kitchen), but it managed to cool both bedrooms—though it was necessary to keep the doors to both bedrooms open at night. The staff were very friendly and kind, and the bar had good prices. The pool was clean, with stunning views of the sea and, in the distance, the smoking volcano Stromboli. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk to the center of Tropea. You can also take a taxi or call an Uber. The nearby beaches were clean with excellent water quality. Breakfast was not included in our stay—we didn’t mind, as our children don’t eat much in the morning. For dinner, there was a pizzeria just behind the house, or restaurants in the center of Parghelia or Tropea. It’s a great location for many trips around the area, including excursions to Sicily and Mount Etna (by car). We would definitely like to return next year. This accommodation was very warm and welcoming because of the stunning location in the beautiful town of Tortora, the kindness and the love of Lidia and Michele. From the first second we entered, they made us feel at home, we got all the best info to explore the region by Michele. The breakfast was very well prepared each morning by Lidia, with freshly baked products. There is a possibility to have an excellent dinner @ the accommodation prepared by Lidia, we tried and loved it, a must do. Tortora is a gem in the mountains above the sea and very close to Praia al Mare and the region of Maratea.
