The lounge, and dining area are social, and it was lovely to meet other guests. I stayed in the dorm for a week, and it’s multi gender but that’s okay. The cubbies are all very comfortable, spacious enough for me as I’m only 5’2. Mattress, pillow and duvet are so warm and cozy. There’s even a mini tv in each space! The amenities are excellent, toiletries are all provided, I was able to do some laundry as well, after a week of snowboarding. The staff are all exceptional, so kind, so caring, respectful and happy demeanour. What a thriving place to be. The staff sometimes cooked me dinners when I came back late, and were happy to hang out with their guests. You won’t regret staying here!

Most awesome hostel ever!!! Such comfy beds, delicious breakfast, comfy kotatsu could’ve hung out all day :-)

Offering barbecue facilities and quiet street view, Hakuba Amber Resort by Jade Group is located in Hakuba, 43 km from Nagano Station and 44 km from Zenkoji Temple. The property has mountain and garden views, and is 12 km from Tsugaike Kogen Ski Area. The property features a hot tub, free WiFi throughout the property and a 24-hour front desk. The pictures don't do it justice. We were at the two bedroom house and the view, the furnishing and the decorations were breathtaking! Also there's 2.5 baths instead of 2 as advertised. The location is perfect - about 10 minute walk to the restaurants. However what really made our stay so memorable was the service team. They felt like family and were super responsive to every request on WhatsApp. From restaurant and onsen suggestions to helping us book tables. They sent their own car in a snow storm to rescue us from cortina when all taxis cancelled on us. Words can't describe our appreciation and thank you for making our annual family trip so perfect.

The 3-star ryokan features mountain views and is 20 km from Zenkoji Temple. The ryokan also offers free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests. Our stay at Yadoya-Shiroganeya was nothing short of magical. Firstly, the house itself is beautiful and incredibly well kept. It's like stepping into a time machine but also with some modern conveniences. Secondly, Maki-San, the host, is wonderful. She's warm and welcoming and communicates very well in English. We had such a good time learning about the house, its history, and also about herself and how she runs the place. Thirdly, the food. I cannot stress enough how much of a culinary experience this is. The food served by Maki and her mother is exceptional. Locally-sourced and impeccably prepared, we had everything from fresh sashimi, seasonal vegetables, local beef, tempura, and soba noodles. It was honestly one of the best meals we had in Japan! The food alone makes price justifiable, never mind the rest of the experience. An absolute highlight of our trip, we'd love to stay with Maki again one day.

Got picked up from train station on the first day and dropped off at the bus station on the last day as request. Shuttle service to the ski resorts around Hakuba was at reasonable times. Start and end of lift timings. Gas, Bianca and Liam are really nice people to talk to. Great dinner as well. Super affordable accoms. Location might be a turn off but don't hesitate to ask the staff about getting a ride to town in the afternoon if you're not heading to the slopes in the morning.
