The building is beautiful and the room was lovely. There was a water jug available, and even some mint Mentos — which really helped during our long drive! It’s the little touches like these that show how thoughtful and welcoming this place is. It’s become one of my favorites, and I’d love to stay here again next time I visit Launceston.

FAQs about hotels in Tasmania

Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes

Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.

Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.

Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.

Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.

One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

The location is very good, only few minutes drive to the national park. The food is very tasty and worth a try, both breakfast and dinner!! The bar has a very good view over the beach. You can order a drink and enjoy the sunset at the bar. The room is clean, comfortable, and well equipped. There’s a compact kitchen which has everything you need. Bathroom is spacious. Overall, it’s a very food hotel and I think the quality matches the price.

The units were of good size with a small living room, large clean fully equipped kitchen/eating area, bedroom and bathroom. The light was good and when we opened the windows had great airflow. Cute place. We actually never met any staff as we arrived late (easy checking instructions left for us) and both mornings there we departed before the office opened.

Launceston is ideally placed to visit surrounding parts of Tasmania. There are numerous sites to see and can be easily reached ina 1/2 day drive and return. We had a 4 day stay (restricted a bit by the weather). We loved the north-east around Low Head and George Town (found the best pies in Tamar Bakery). CBD was close to a number of eateries - Thai, Chinese etc.

Bicheno is reminiscent of WA's iconic Margaret River but smaller and without the price tag! Lovely wineries, beaches and access to National Parks. Excellent seafood. Food shopping is a bit grim tho with only one poorly stocked IGA, so if you're driving recommend taking your own food. It's very close to Hobart, 150 Ks or so and a lovely drive to get there.

Cradle mountain is beautiful and wonderful. We have been there on several occasions including when we were engaged. The environment is peaceful and probably better in the cooler conditions (Like now) when there are fewer tourists around. The rain adds a special feeling when walking around Dove lake. The local cafe in Coles Bay was great, perfect coffee, great pastries, service with a smile. The roads are in excellent condition and you can drive all day without encountering issues. I would suggest a visit to Bicheno for lobster rolls (Lobster shack) and oysters (Marine farm). The walk up to the viewing platform for Wineglass Bay was worth the 400+ metres of steps. The sun is super strong, plan ahead.

Burnie is a lovely friendy coastal town with good shopping facilities and eating places. Apart from the fact that you can walk along the beach and of an evening see the penguins it is within driving distance of other notable places for day trips. Stanley, Smithton, Cradle Mountain and the drive to any of these places is mainly picturesque and there is no need for rushing, just relax and enjoy the journey.
