The area is gorgeous, with natural reserves, long empty (stone or sand) beaches, seadogs, cliffs, forests, hiking paths... We liked also visiting villages like Mers-les-Bains, Saint-Valery-sur-Somme et Le Tréport. In Cayeux-sur-Mer there's a really good bakery, nice closed market (3 days/ week) and bars (L'Embuscade near the market, and two at the beach).
Madame Vacances was perfect to visit all this. Really friendly staff and nice well-equipped tiny apartment at the beach front. We couldn't make use of the swimming pool (because under renovations most week), but in any case it's tiny and best for children. We asked for the WiFi code for the rooms because the free WiFi at the lounge didn't connect well and this was perfect for us (as we had to work a bit during the week).

Spacious, well-appointed room, with a great view directly across the beach to the sea. Friendly, helpful staff. High class restaurant with fair prices, as well as a less formal bar/bistro option. Location perfect, right on the beach and on the Main Street with a large selection of bars, restaurants etc. Free public parking out of season.

New looking holiday house, bathroom, showers, kitchen were all in good state and functional.
Rooms were big enough to host 13 people comfortably.
The house has a garden and is not connected with other houses so it gives privacy.
Very nice staff - reception and restaurant ❤️
Views from the window were fascinating and walking us to see the big water from your window is priceless ❤️

There were interesting places everywhere; the various quarters of the itself, the little train that takes you in old fashioned style to Le Crotoy or Cayeux, the boat trips out to the farthest point where it is possible to view seals and amazing bird life, boutique shops and food discoveries. For the young at heart the cycling opportunities were endless and very safe, as are the hiking experiences. With good wellingtons it is possible (with a proper guide) to go out onto the marshes at low tide and view the wild life up more closely, such as crested cranes and the ecosystem. Further afield there are lovely, long forest walks in the Cressy forest and a visit to the battlefield of Crecy (August 1346) where a much smaller army under Edward III and his son, the Black Prince, routed many more French soldiers and mercenaries by clever strategy and the English longbow. A very small site but very atmospheric

Le Crotoy is a village we have been coming to for many years. It is a perfect holiday destination with excellent beaches, bars and restaurants. Hotels are good, in particular Les Tourelles and there are many small towns worth visiting. The steam railway to St Vallery and Cayeux is well worth doing. There is a market every day of the week in a nearby town. If you like fish this is the place to come to.

Mers-Les-Bains is a traditional unspoiled French resort.
Mers-Les-Bains is a traditional unspoiled French resort.
The people are friendly and welcoming, but do not expect English to be spoken in the smaller of the restaurants and cafes.. but this wont stop you having a wonderful meal ...
There are a number of good restaurants and cafes, Mussels are great!
It is not too far from Calais, but a world apart in terms of pace of life and enjoyment that comes with it
The beach is shingle at the top part, but sand when the tide goes out, and great for kids and families. You can buy shrimp nets for play in the pools that are left as the tide goes out.
I had a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend there with my partner and will definitely visit again soon.

The hotel was fabulous. Excellent accommodation and really good food. Couldn't ask for more. The hotel is located some 2 - 3 miles outside of Ault in a pretty village on to a small beach surrounded by cliffs. Easy access with good parking facilites.
The nearby town of Ault is a small and quiet place with beach and Casino. We were out of season so very little open, but good local population out enjoying life.

Clean, comfortable and economical, with really friendly and helpful staff who spoke English but still good naturedly persevered with my extremely bad French. Good value and pet friendly with a restaurant 30 metres away.

We took the cycle path to Quend which was pleasant, away from the traffic. We ate at Le Tiky on two occasions, both of which were lovely lunches. We ate there because we could park our tandem easily against the wind screens which protect the outside seating area.
We also rode south to Le Crotoy and north to la Madelon Fleurie.

This was just a stopover for us, so we only had half an afternoon, an evening and a morning but this allowed us to see everything we wanted to. It's a lovely town to explore on foot. We particularly enjoyed the medieval town and the old fishing quarter.
If we'd had longer we would have taken some longer walks and maybe ridden the steam train over to Crotoy.

Delightful place to visit. Quaint streets. Quiet - no noisy bars! Good choice of good restaurants. Great for walking around the bay. Don't miss the narrow guage railway from Le Crotoy around the bay. Also don't miss the boat trip across the bay.
