Carnac is a lovely southern Brittany town that many visit to see the amazing stone alignments (rather like Avebury and Stonhenge). However we found both the old town centre and the beach lovely places to walk. Somehow the French keep these areas in Brittany almost litter free. We will go back.
Roscoff is a beautiful old village full of georgeous architecture, tiny interesting shops and bars and fascinating little alleyways that capture the imagination. A visit to the church is a must as the interior, for such a small church, is lavish and quite takes the breath away. The exterior, set in its bund wall to prevent flooding, has so many carvings and gargoyles that it takes a time to see them all. Everywhere in Roscoff is but a short walk away, from the sea front and harbour to the end of the village with its traditional Breton style houses, the whole place demands a strolling pace One odd thing I found is the almost complete lack of any evidence of the German occupation during the Second World War. So many places I have visited bear the ugly scars of the Germans wanton defence damage concrete eyesores yet, here in Roscoff, there is almost nothing to suggest that once it was a crucial port to the Germans! All in all, Roscoff is a charming French sea port that is a nut if you love Brittany.
Weather was bad, so we didn’t get to wander around , although we did drive around some of the regional attractions. Brittany has a rich culture and history and needs to be explored.
Rennes is a wonderful city often overlooked!! It is a great jumping off point to other wonders of Brittany!! There's lots of fascinating things to do in the city!! There's a wonderful creperie near the old main gate that's a real gem!!
The Saturday market was great. The Brittany museum and the Eco Musee were also good. The Brittany museum has information in French, English and Breton. The Eco Musee only had information in French (not even an English guide book) which was a shame. The metro was great.
Shared bathroom & toilet down the corridor but it is Brittany so should have expected it at the budget price of £39 it's ok for a nights stop over before catching the ferry .easy parking outside property next to the railway station .didnt here the trains in fact it was a very quiet street slept like a log . it's attached to a bar and closes at 8 there was no food available to buy so went to superU or suggest you take your own .breakfast is only croissant and coffee €6.50 We gave it a miss as don't like either
Our stay at the Hotel Rohan Pontivy, was an absolute pleasure. The owner went out of his way to make our brief visit an absolute joy. The room and breakfast were perfect and secure parking is always welcome. It helped to make the touring of beautiful Brittany a great experience.
Rural village/small town with local shops and supermarket. Other supermarkets, garden centres nearby. Ideal base to explore this beautiful corner of Brittany.
Go to the Boulangerie for delicious cakes, tarts, bread of every kind and delicious sandwiches. Walk by the river Rance and into the surrounding fields - tranquil, beautiful. I miss the bird life in UK but in the Brittany countryside the birds are numerous and constantly twittering which is a joy!
Such a pretty village, geared up for tourists with bars/restaurants/shops and supermarkets. Great walking in Huelgoat forests, the nature was amazing. There is even the Brittany Pub sell amongst other things fish and chips and pasties! Very friendly and welcoming everywhere we went.
Dinan
This was our final night in France and what a wonderful place to end our Brittany road trip. The room was beautifully appointed looking straight onto the River Rance. I was a bit worried that we were directly above the restaurant but it was absolutely fine. All the staff were very friendly and even though breakfast wasn't until 8am they ensured we could have an early one in order to shoot off to catch our ferry. We also ate our evening meal there (make sure you book!) which was delicious! We would love to return and stay a while longer.
First of all we had the suit. The room was absolutely gorgeus. The view was like from a postcard. The whole hotel looked very recently renovated and very tastefully decorated. You can have a dinner in gastronomic restaurant or just have something small on terrace. Both delicious and with wonderfull views of red rocks. 10 minutes walk to phare. Out of the 5 hotels we had in Brittany this was definitely the best experience.
Excellent hotel although the look from the 70s gives doesn’t look too promising. The staff is very competent, very friendly and the breakfast, especially for the price, outstanding. Very clean, we are looking forward to staying there again when finishing our cycling trip through Brittany. The shower could be a challenge if you are above 2m but that’s the only negative aspect I could think about. 😀
Vannes
The facilities are superb. But the staff was exceptional. The best we've experienced! When we had to depart before breakfast they prepared a delicious take-away breakfast. The restaurant is also truly exceptional. The cooking was original and truly outstanding. This was the best hotel and dining experience I've had in many years. A must stay for anyone visiting Brittany!
Just fantastic. Ultra cleen rooms and french ladies doing the room service. Breakfast was delicious and for a breakfast in France really a lot!. Real good coffee, nothing out of a big machine, but brewed classical! Balcony overlooking the hot spot of Brittany coast. Will come back again. The short extended weekend trip was perfect because of this hotel and people working here!!!
A wonderful hotel in the harbor of Cancale overlooking the dramatic ebbing and flooding of the tides ... a reminder of the circular nature of life. We had dinner at the hotel - oysters, of course, followed by a risotto with coquilles St. Jacques ... a great treat polished off with an excellent bottle of wine ! A highly recommended stop along the Brittany Coast.
Well equipped, cozy little appartment on 2 floors. It was November and appartment was very quiet (it may be noisier in the summer months). Location is about 30 mins walk from Dinard centre but we came with our bikes which is ideal to see the area. Good small kitchen and Internet TV with Netflix (good for rainy evenings in Brittany!). Reserved parking place for 1 car.
Comfortable quiet room with everything required for a good night's sleep. Very clean throughout. The staff were kind and helpful and cheerful! Good value continental style breakfast. Carantec is a lovely place well worth a look if time permits. Location 20 mins from Brittany Ferries at Roscoff. Will stay again when next travelling to France from Plymouth.
Lovely apartment right in the old town within very easy walking distance to all the amenities and sights . An excellent town , very pretty in its own right and as a gateway for exploring Brittany. Leon is a lovely host who provided detailed instructions on how to access this beautifully furnished apartment .
Really pleased with our choice of an apartment to stay in Vannes for a three night visit this area of Brittany. Spacious, very well furnished (very comfy beds) and good location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Not an obvious choice for where to stay when on holiday but very pleasantly surprised.
We stayed at the Hotel Atlantic for one night after a trip through Normandy and Brittany and wanted a reasonably priced hotel a short walk from the train station. It was a very good find, and is also a quick walk to the metro station to easily access all the main sights of Rennes.
Fantastic hotel so clean. The breakfast was really good and the check in facility is very good. Key card given out of key box. Hotel is sanitised to a high degree. Lady in reception was friendly and attentive. Would recommend to anyone visiting this part of Brittany
Dinan
We arrived at the the hotel on bikes as we were doing a cycle tour of Brittany. The Guy at reception was very friendly and helped us the park the four bikes securely in the garden. Hotel is very nice and only a short walk to the centre of Dinan. What a lovely place.
Amazing property. I would call it a Boutique Hotel. The decor, the extreme attention to detail in every aspect of the room. I would recommend this to any person visiting Vannes. This is the best property I have stayed in during my holiday in Brittany.
We had an apartment on two floors with a big bed on second floor. The private spa was very nicely made. Breakfast was one of the best we had. The staff was very helpful and gave us not only restaurant tips but also awesome traveling tips in Brittany.
We were upgraded to a larger suite. For an older building in France I was pleasantly surprised about the size of the room. It was larger than the other hotel and chamber d'hotes we had stayed at while in Brittany.
Intra Muros, Saint Malo
The apartment was excellently located with a great view on the sea. Round the corner is good Crêperie and a Boulangerie. April is usely a cold month in Brittany but the heaters in the apartment did their job.
Good solution for visiting Rennes or stop by while travelling to/from Brittany. The hotel can be easily reached from the highway and offers a free parking. Good place, clean, cosy. Recommended.
The room was a suitable size. The breakfasts were sufficient. The sea views from the bedroom and hotel gardens were good. The location was suitable base for motoring tours of west Brittany. Quiet.
Concarneau
The apartment is perfectly located to explore the nearby attractions in Brittany. Close enough to walk in to Concarneau centre and there are a couple of nice restaurants on the doorstep.
