Cosy, quiet, clean and stocked with all the basics. Fantastic value and good information packet too. Owners left great instructions of how to find too. Saw the Genemede meteor shower from the bench in the back garden while barn owls swooped around, lovely!

Loved the location being walking distance to the centre of Newton Stewart. Loved the balcony overlooking the River. The hosts were very kind and supplied milk , bread, biscuits, butter and cheese, . It was very comfortable, very spacious. Kitchen was well stocked with utensils and crockery. Great location for walking or cycling. Good selection of DVDs to watch. Close to supermarkets. Would definitely stay again. Thanks for such a fab holiday.

Spacious and warm cottage in a beautiful setting with its own garden. Well equipped kitchen, excellent shower, and good sized dining table that can be set up in the living room. There is an upstairs WC, as well as downstairs shower room, which wasn't obvious from the online booking page. Walking distance to the local shop, tea room and the CatStrand Arts Centre.

The hotel was at a picture-perfect location with a beautiful river flowing alongside. The rooms were beautifully furnished Tatiana is an excellent host; we all loved her warmth and welcoming nature. The food tasted amazing. We strongly recommend her paneer butter masala. It was yummilicios and we had several portions during our stay. The cheesecake is also a must-try. The rooms felt a bit cold despite the maximum heating setting. We had a prompt visit to check the heating and were provided with portable heaters for both rooms for our comfort.

Newton Stewart was and I suppose still is the big town close to the village where most of my family came from, so I have an affection for the place that is steeped in decades of trips back to Scotland for reunions, birthdays and special events most of which happened in the Newton Stewart hotels ... so my experience has always been tinged with excitement and fun and I've always found it friendly, welcoming and a town ready to have a good time. Great pub food along the high street, a solid chippie in the main square and ideally located for a jaunt around the south and Wigtownshire.

1. Cycling and walking in the forest. Wheels of Fleet were very helpful with bike hire. 2. Wigtown is worth a look for book lovers 3. Kirkcudbright is a day out with kids - the planetarium, plenty of galleries and cafes.

It's a beautiful estate and the glamping pods are well kitted out. You still need to take supplies but much more civilised than camping! Great for those who love beautiful scenery, outdoor activities and a lovely alternative to camping.

If you want to be in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by forest and hills, then this is the place for you. A 30 minute drive will take you to lots of interesting places and there are lots of opportunities for walking. The Red kite feeding station in Laurieston was a highlight and the Loch Arthur farm shop cafe in Beeswing is great for lunch.

Catstrand, the community run Arts Centre, is a great resource. Very friendly village, great base for Galloway Forest and Loch Ken. Exciting to see lots of red kites and the odd deer. Sad to see that village cafes have closed and there lots of property for sale. Lovely gardens at Threave, Castle Douglas, Broughton House in Kirkudbright and Glenwhan.

We loved the privacy of living in the woods and although one other cottage is fairly close by, we still felt like we had escaped the world (but with the bonus of a great kitchen, aga, the internet and Netflix!). For a large family gathering, booking both cottages would be ideal but there is only one parking space for each cottage. Fantastic walking area but good base for exploring region. Great to have an enclosed garden for dogs and if you have a horse you can arrange to bring it too!

Lovely part of Scotland that is greatly overlooked

Lovely part of Scotland that is greatly overlooked Newton Stewart is a great base for exploring the wider area with good cycle path along River Cree down to Wigton. Area is fantastic for cycle touring.Loved the quiet roads on the Machar down to and around Isle of Whitehorn/ Port William, parts of the cycle route to Gatehouse on Fleet and used a car to get to different start points to explore around Kirkcudbright and Dalbeattie, and around Mull of Galloway( northern section especially lovely sea views to Ailsa Craig). Sadly not impressed with parts of Sustrans routes (poorly maintained or shocking surface for road bikes on sections of the signed route thro Cally Palace and to Gatehouse before Creetown, and parts of old Military Road seemed v neglected. We even returned on part of A75 to avoid the worst sections of this route around Stronord!) Great ride from Stranraer to Girvan via New Luce and Barrhill and caught the train back-the train ride alone is an experience to enjoy. We enjoyed days of carefree cycling thanks to some great weather. Really appreciated the efforts to make this part of Scotland cycle friendly and safe. It was good to see others enjoying the same.
