Breakfast and stuff were out of this world, the best service ever. The hotel is very beautiful and authentic with the vibes of Edinburgh. Free coffee to go, free wi-fi, 1 minute away from a bus stop. We LOVED this hotel so much we've already become members, and booked a stay at their upcoming hotel in Kensington. This place is like 5 star accommodation. The staff was helpful and friendly. Everything is well thought out. The cafe is wonderful. Fabulous coffee we loved so much, we didn't have coffee anywhere else. The room was gorgeous, and larger than a London apartment. The room has radiant heating, with heat coming from the floors. Gorgeous finishes, sparkling clean and new. The kitchen was SO well stocked we could enjoy my birthday champagne in proper champagne glasses. Included also was a fridge, kettle, dishwasher, clothes washer, etc. There was a white noise machine by the bed, and a yoga mat in the room. There was also loads of storage for tucking away our belongings. The living area was separated from the bed area. I'm so happy we had 3 nights there, it was the best stay we've had anywhere.

Staff : went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. After travelling for over 24hrs and landing at 6am the team were able to have our room ready which we were eternally grateful for. We also had a cancelled flight the next morning and there was no problem to book the same room again. (we were lucky enough not to be travelling in peak times for this availability) Food : both breakfast and dinners were fabulous. SPA : I had both facial and massage and they were bliss

Livingston is a quaint, calm neighbourhood.

Livingston is a quaint, calm neighbourhood. Although not easy to access an Uber, there are bus stops if you walk a few minutes, and Livingston North train station is of course a stop for the different rail services. We walked for about 15-20 mins to get to a station. Save the number of taxi operators ahead of your trip, if you're travelling with lots of luggage and want convenient drop offs and pick ups from/to your space in Livingston.

North Berwick is fantastic in nice weather, because of the beach (Yellowcraig to the west, or the quieter East Beach), the views of Bass Rock and other islands in the Firth of Forth, and the access to coastal walks. There are many nice coffee shops (we liked JP Deli) and restaurants (No 12 Hotel & Bistro was our favourite), and a good variety of shops, where you can buy groceries, clothing, gifts, art, kitchenware, etc. The Seabird Centre is a nice spot for coffee and sea-views. Depending on the weather conditions you can book boat trips to Bass Rock, Craigleith Island and/or the Isle of May. However, in wet or very windy weather one is really more limited, especially out-with the main shopping hours. There is a museum/library that opens from late mornings through the afternoon. Tantallon Castle is about 2.5 miles east of the town and is definitely worth a visit. Archerfield Walled Garden is good for lunch/gifts; and the Tyninghame Smithy is a lovely lunch stop on the John Muir Way (though it is often very busy).

Lovely weather, so walked round the loch (lake) to Linlithgow Peel (Park). Visited the Palace, - birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots, Church & Museum, wonderful. Sampled great coffees, homemade lunches & baking in the several small independent cafes. Took train to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and car to Stirling. So easy and practical.
