FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

Great city/ walkable but good bus/ tram services.

Great city/ walkable but good bus/ tram services. The Christmas markets were fabulous & easy to access. The main shopping mall had all the shops you needed but other streets had great independent retailers. We found a great Italian restaurant in the centre too 👍

In my humble opinion, Glasgow is the best city in Scotland. The shopping is second to none especially the Marks and Spencer’s in Argyle Street. There are so many great places to eat. The tourist attractions are great and there is something for everyone. What really makes Glasgow special is its people- so friendly and welcoming.

The city itself is beautiful sitting right on the Loch Ness with charming, sweeping views of the Loch and castle which looms over the city in all its majesty. A small and quaint city and very enjoyable to walk around, beautiful buildings and locals which made our stay very welcoming. Our favourite locations in and around Inverness had to be Culloden battlefield for its rich and moving history and of-course the castle of Inverness with its panoramic views of the city. Our only gripe is the unfortunate state of cleanliness in the streets after dark, which were littered with trash.

I didn't know Glasgow Airport was in Paisley! I was only in the airport. I went straight to Glasgow and never saw or knew I was in the vicinity of a separate town called Paisley. I'm sure it's a lovely historic town, but I've never been there. The airport was fine, as airports go. The Marriott Hotel was great, like all the other Marriott hotels.
