The location was absolutely perfect — right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Almost everything I wanted to explore was within a 15–20 minute walk, which made my stay super convenient. The surrounding vibe was lively yet charming, with historic streets and attractions all around. I really appreciated how easy it was to get around without needing transport.

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

Absolutely everything. The hotel was wonderful, with beautifully curated décor and attention to every detail. The owners were warm, thoughtful and always ready to help – it truly felt like being at home. Breakfast was delicious, served with a lovely view of the garden. I even want to try making that compote at home! The scent throughout the house transported you to a magical place, and the cleanliness was exceptional. They also have cozy lounges with fireplaces where you can enjoy a drink after a long day exploring the magical castles of Scotland. We will definitely return, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional and peaceful place to stay during their holidays.

Inverness is a great city for walking about. Lots of places to shop or pop in for a bite to eat, coffee or something stronger to warm the bones. The people are friendly and helpful. We were there in November and had a great time. I can only imagine the area in the spring. Leakey's Bookshop is a must see. I didn't know Glasgow Airport was in Paisley! I was only in the airport. I went straight to Glasgow and never saw or knew I was in the vicinity of a separate town called Paisley. I'm sure it's a lovely historic town, but I've never been there. The airport was fine, as airports go. The Marriott Hotel was great, like all the other Marriott hotels.

Oban is great the seafood is a must (try the sea-food shack by the ferry), there is a good range of shops from handmade jewellery and fine wool clothing to charity shops, whisky shops and outdoor shops. The distillery and hot chocolate café are worth a visit as is a walk up the hill or along the shore to the castle.
