The staff were all amazing and very friendly with our dog - even bringing her a sausage at breakfast in the mornings. The food was absolutely delicious. A great choice of continental and cooked food on offer at breakfast. We ate our evening meals there both nights as well - delicious. The room was clean, it has a kettle with a tea tray (including biscuits and a bottle of water). No carpet in the room but that is better with it being dog friendly. No fridge, but we had brought a mini one with us for medication and our dogs food. Will definitely look to stay there again next time we are up that way.

We have never had such a warm welcome at a hotel. What a friendly and accommodating staff - from the front desk to management to wait staff to the porter to housekeeping. Everyone was just lovely and quite responsive. We arrived by bicycle after 28 days of touring Scotland. This was the perfect place to rest and recover for two days before sailing home. Our room was spacious, the spa was relaxing, and our bike was stored in a secure, indoor location. We opted for half-board and thoroughly enjoyed each meal. The charm of this hotel has been retained while updates have made the facilities more modern.

Sunderland proved a much better base for exploring this area (E Durham and Tyneside) than Newcastle, where I stayed last time. Less busy, certainly safer. Sunderland is still going through a transition from its industrial past, I'd say it's handling the process pretty well.

I would have liked to have given a better review but unfortunately we had an issue with a faulty oven & hob. Although the electrician attended he was unable to rectify the issue concluding a new oven was required. This left us with only the hob which also tripped out if using more than one ring. Gordon offered us a full refund if we booked out after one night. However this was not acceptable as we had events planned for Saturday. Also, as we had planned to self cater we had bought in food which was wasted and we had to dine out with unexpected expenditure. i.e Friday evening & Saturday evening. Gordon offered a reduction of £100.00 which we thought reasonable, & accepted. We appreciate Gordon would have no control over the oven issue & being weekend there was little that could be achieved until working weekday.

Hugely underrated seaside town on one of the loveliest stretches of coast in the British Isles. Perfect for those who like walking, cycling, paddle boarding, wild swimming, birdwatching, or spotting dolphins. The Sand Dancer pub is one of our favourite places, and there are marvellous eateries on Ocean Road.

Tynemouth Long Sands beach is well named & very popular even in December! Very good bus service right by the hotel into Newcastle, Whitley Bay etc. Also the hotel is opposite Tynemouth boating lake that has a dinosaur theme area which the kiddies will love. If you are into history Tynemouth has a priory that looks like a castle which was made that way to protect against viking raiders. Also, there is Collingwood's Monument which has cannons from the battle of Trafalgar. Collingwood was Nelson's second-in-command.

Exactly what you need for the price .

Exactly what you need for the price . Good Digs with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen with all the things you would need for grabbing a coffee ect before heading out. I only needed it for a place to sleep/pit stop and it was bang on for the price. Take away around d the corner and a nice pub that does good scran called Alfies 3 minutes away. In short its a place to crash with what you need no further than a 3 minute walk and Jesmond is quick to reply to any messages with all the info.

This questionnaire is inaccurate. The photo used is of King Edward's Bay, Tynemouth - in the postal district of, BUT NOT, North Shields. North Shields has now a thriving fishing quay area with quaint pubs BUT I would not recommend its town centre which is very run down.
