The best pub in the area. The food, the rooms and maybe the best is the friendly staff. I needed to get some extra work in and it was not a problem to make use of their hospitality for a bit longer. We keep on coming back.

Very warm welcome even though we arrived later than we had informed due to the inevitable roadtripppring unpredictability. The room was spacious and had everything we needed, like electric kettle, mugs, wardrobe, mirror, hairdryer and portable heater. Our room opened to a most gorgeous patio+green area. The hosts were kind and attentive at all times. Hearty breakfast! Great energy! It honestly felt like home. Thank you and see you next year!

I booked out this hotel for family and friends to stay in following my wedding. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful in the booking process and did everything they could to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The hotel only offered continental breakfast, but given that we had booked out the whole hotel, they agreed to do a hot breakfast on a pre-order, which was fantastic! Our family and friends also enjoyed the restaurant and bar the evening before, both areas of which are nicely designed and have a nice ambience. Some of the rooms are quite old-fashioned in terms of aesthetics, but The Lansdowne is such an old hotel, and the majority of the hotel has been recently refurbished. This also didn't impact the level of cleanliness and the quality of service, which was great. Also don't be put off by the lack of parking as there is a big car park nearby you can pay and display at, and it's very reasonable. Would recommend The Lansdowne to all looking to stay in Calne!

A lovely night's stay in The Bear. We enjoyed the friendly helpfulness of all the staff, our large bedroom with a comfortable big double bed, and the sparklingly clean bath/shower room. Quirky old building with an interesting history, the hotel is in a great location for the market and an easy walk to the Kennet and Avon canal. Breakfast was fair and dinner was good. As for being 'dated', yes it is a bit - but that was part of the charm for us. We also appreciated the care taken over environmental concerns - towels, with space to hang them and a request to avoid the need of clean ones every day. There was minimal plastic, with good bathroom cosmetics in re-filled containers. What a pleasure! Description was matched by reality and the hotel gave excellent value for money.

We loved walking around Salisbury and visiting the beautiful Salisbury cathedral. Salisbury has so many eateries and lovely shops and just has a great atmosphere. We also drove to Stonehenge and did the paid visit (30 GB pounds per adult). As it was early December the weather was wild, with blustery winds and raining and grey foreboding skies which really added to the atmosphere of the place and we absolutely loved it (especially as there weren’t many tourists) !

Bowood Hotel is set in beautiful countryside and even in midwinter was lovely. The hotel and room were really well decorated and maintained. The christmas party evening was really well organised and the DJ was excellent. There didn't seem to be enough staff in the bar/lounge area in the evening, meaning that the tables were not cleared of afternoon tea things and dirty glasses for 4 hours while we were there. The barman was a little rude and slow. The floor in the Spa was dirty at 11.30am which was surprising. However the breakfast was absolutely delicious, lunch was really good and all staff were helpful on these occasions.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located. The town looks to be in decline with some key employers closing down. Wadsworth's brewery, is in the process of being demolished, so a bit of an eyesore. The market square is partly closed to traffic due to a fire in a kebab shop and locals tell me this is impacting in footfall to the town. Sad to see it this way. Great if you like charity shops and Turkish barbers! White Bear pub is still superb though:)

Warminster is a perfect location to see the many sites the area has to offer, the local train station is convenient to Bath, Bristol and Salisbury all worth a visit for a day. The staff were great. The food was excellent. The Oktoberfest on the Friday night was great fun with all the community welcoming us. We were upgraded to an apartment which was very big and the bed was very comfortable for my husband, who is 6ft3". But beware of events at the Castle Combe racing circuit as this can cause a long traffic jam with many visitors all trying to get into the circuit at the same time!

We were visiting family living in the area.

We were visiting family living in the area. Our overall impression of Trowbridge was that there is a lot of house building and road works going on around the area. The town centre has, like the rest of the country, been affected by the country's financial crisis. However, the surrounding countryside and villages are pretty. Lots to visit and see in the area.
