Please, treat yourself and stay in one of the villas - I spent almost a month in Indonesia and it's the best sleep I had! The bed is so comfy, the space was super clean and I felt super safe knowing there were no bugs in the room with us. The room was very spacious and the outdoor bathroom is also super nice. Although the decor is clean and modern, it still is a typical balinese hotel which I love!
Breakfast was DELICIOUS - best scrambled eggs we had!! we still talk about them! Also you could choose to have the breakfast in your patio or in the restaurant. Luckily for us, from both places your could see and hear the river which was so beautiful and relaxing. 10/10 experience.
Location is super. The hotel is between two rivers and surrounded by nature. The staff was very helpful and they even carried our bags from the reception to the villa, since the path to get there was a bit bumpy. Please, bare in mind that you will need a car for almost everything. I would 100% recommend to hire a private driver for your stay and visit the many waterfalls nearby, Sidemen city, the activity parks (with rafting and other activities!) etc.

SlovakiaWe booked a 2-bedroom villa with a garden view. The villa was perfectly clean, huge, with 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a large kitchen. The terrace was absolutely perfect - a huge area for having a rest. The staff was very nice and polite. Helpful at any time. Originally we booked this villa for 3 nights only however, the area, accommodation and pool were so stunning, that we decided to extend our stay by 3 more nights. The pool was very clean and nice to swim in (1st half of the pool has shallow water - safe for children, the 2nd half of the pool has 1.8m depth). The garden is amazing. Wifi, air-conditioning, fans - working perfectly. Cleaning every day. Accommodation is just a few minutes of walk to very nice restaurants - we recommend Cafe Peoplepoint for meals and drinks. Lipah Beach is a nice and safe place for snorkelling with kids. We saw nice fishes and turtles as well. The medical centre (English-speaking doctor) is 3 minute walk from the villa. Laundry, supermarket, SPA almost the next door. Welcome drinks were waiting for us in the fridge. I highly recommend this villa for a stay. Everything was perfect.

My mom and I had the most incredible time at Wapa di Ume Sidemen. The resort was absolutely breathtaking, with its unique bamboo architecture and stunning views of the river and rice fields. We loved waking up to the sounds of nature and the sight of lush greenery.
One of the highlights of our stay was the sunset walk along the river, where we witnessed the majestic Mount Agung in all its glory. It was a truly magical experience. The resort's infinity pool was another favorite spot, offering panoramic views and a serene atmosphere.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort. We even learned how to make traditional Balinese offerings, a cultural experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.
The food at the restaurant was delicious, especially the breakfast. We indulged in the delectable avocado toast and other local delicacies. We also pampered ourselves with relaxing massages at the spa, which left us feeling rejuvenated.

We loved the nostalgic old wooden kampung house, the beautiful pool, the sea views and the staff! We also loved that the Kampung is surrounded by rice paddies. Having breakfast every morning on the large patio while sipping coffee and watching the ocean was a great way to start our day. Private massage can be arranged on the pool deck and evening BBQ's are available at a reasonable extra cost. Arranging transportation was very easy and Ketut and the rest of the staff are lovely and attentive. Water pressure is a big bonus and beds have mozzie nets. The AC is also outstanding. There is an Aldi's down the road (within walking distance) where they sell lots of expat provisions (ie wine, yogurt, jams, fresh baked breads, etc). There are smaller local shops nearby as well.

Everything was just perfect. This was my favourite place to stay in the 2 weeks ive spent in Bali. It is in such a beautiful location, so peaceful. The staff are incredibly helpful and welcoming, the room was gorgeous, very clean, comfortable. Amazing shower. I cant fault it. I had only booked one night and wanted to stay longer but they were fully booked, I would have loved to have stayed longer, it just felt like a place of peace, grounding and healing. I hope to be back in the future.

This has been my second home for 18 years. Everyone at Blue Moon are incredible and go above and beyond for their guests. Anything you need, they can arrange for you - whether it be Laundry, massages or scooter hire. Cannot recommend this enough - the views alone should be enough, but if that isn’t, the ambience and the staff are another fantastic reason.

We had a large bungalow with a separate kitchen and a large balcony. The open-air bathroom was large. We went snorkelling in one of the best places I have been to right in front of our bungalow. The kitchen staff was very sociable and friendly.

Loved Amed but was only there for 2 nights, would definately go back for longer. Beautiful people and amazing local food. Great spot if you dont want the hussle and bussle of Kuta/Seminyak or Legian.

The best restaurant in Indonesia is the Asri in this hotel. The food is outrageously good and quite inexpensive!
The hotel is gorgeous with great views from every cottage. The service is amazing and the staff quickly learn your name and what you like/don't like.
I was not bothered by insects at this hotel at all.
Highly recommend for a splurge!

I have been travelling around Bali for some time and I have come to a conclusion. Bali is about Earth Energy and there are 4 elements in which it excels. Central Bali, Ubud and heading North for Jungle Energy....intense and slightly chaotic. The Peninsula for expansive Ocean Energy, connecting you to something bigger, and Rock Energy...grounding, stabilising. Then you have Candidasa. Candidasa is the Energy of the Hills, the Green Healing Hills. Take your bike off the main road and you will be driving closer and closer to the foot, then keep driving, up and up, for absolutely breath taking views of dense greenery with traditional structures scattered in the distance. Breathtaking.

Padang bai is a transit town for the ferries.
Padang bai is a transit town for the ferries. There are plenty of eateries around. The beach is unfortunately littered with rubbish and stray dogs roam around. It’s not somewhere to stay for long. There is a dive centre so it might be good for that, but for me as a general tourist I wouldn’t take a holiday here. I just stayed for the fast boats.

A little village with one main street.
A little village with one main street. Lots of diving opportunities. There was a 3 day festival happening when we were here that had a night market and dancing, including a fire dance. We got to mingle with the locals, kind folk, which was nice. It's a pretty easy scoot to some of the temples, rice fields, waterfalls, beaches, and attractions in the area. Decent local restaurants, good massages, good accessible shore dives.
Easy enough to find a scooter rental for 70k-85k per day, ask the owner of where you're staying.
During our stay in late October, there was a lot of haze in the air (maybe from burning?) so unfortunately, there weren't good sunrises or sunsets.

An off beat location, which is actually peaceful and great for nature lovers, adventure seekers and history lovers. It is close to the mother temple of Bali (15 minutes), Blue lagoon diving and Snorkeling, p
Pura Tirta and the most amazing rafting site. So a 3-night stay at this place is ideal to cover east Bali and then you can go to Ubud.

We stayed just one night to visit the Gates of Heaven.
We stayed just one night to visit the Gates of Heaven. I feel is enough to see the surroundings and have a feel of the place. We found the tickets a bit expensive. I mean is a nice place but not to pay 10$. You can see Tirtagangga in 20 minutes, depending on whether you are an instagramer and you take selfies in every corner, then you can stay there for over an hour, although is very difficult to take good selfies as there are people everywhere.
Around the entrance, there are a few restaurants and shops. But please I would say to the owners or whoever takes care of this place, tell people not to feed the fish. They are huge! and it's because the shops nearby sell food so you can take a picture with the fish.

Seraya is definitely a place to recommend. If you are looking for authenticity, pristine beaches (Virgin beach), local culture (Lempuyang Temple, Tirta Gangga Water Palace & Local Coffee Farm, etc.), you will definitely love the place!

Besakih accommodations have a beautiful location in small village, with amazing views across the valleys.
The hike of Mount Agung is challenging in all possible ways and attempting during day time (heat- a big part is without shade) or without a guide in our opinion is dangerous.
If travelling to Besakih you might consider having a car or motorbike as there are a lot of dogs on the street that bark and approach you unfriendly. we managed to use the transport from the accommodation.
The Besakih Temple is mind blowing, the guide we had was very knowledgeable and very good at his job.
Would strongly recommend visiting besakih for a minimum of 3 nights.

Amed was lovely, found some great eating places that were really reasonable. Gusto, Galangal, Warranga Amed with live music and fabulous hosts, Sunset view restaurant )the lower key more traditional one) the other Sunset view was too upmarket and commercialised. We loved riding around on the scooters and felt it was quiet enough to feel safe. Really enjoyed getting up into the hills from there to see the rural lifestyles.
