It was perfect - breakfast/restaurant & an Irish pub for the evenings. Had a nice little reading spot and everyone was very friendly. It was a close walk to the downtown area, it was a nice walk away from tourists each morning :)

I hadn't been to Kilkenny for a good number of years and I was blown away by how pretty and accessible the town was. We were there at Halloween so it was very atmospheric, ghost tour was great too. There were so many interesting shops and lovely restuarants, Paris Texas was particularly good. ALL the bars were great with music most nights, Fields and Matt Millars were particularly good. I'm thinking of going back again for the christmas markets.

We had a walk around and found it to be very quiet, no loud noise we actually liked it. The takeaway food was fabulous and really good value. It was the perfect location for us as the event we were attending was only 17mins away.

If you drive it’s fantastic if not it’s a bit out of the way if you want to ramble around but I could have stayed in the hotel all day it was so relaxing and that’s what I mainly wanted so it suited me

Inistioge was charming.

Inistioge was charming. We ventured into the village for supplies and the little store had everything. The pub staff were friendly, but you need to go early if you’re looking for a meal. It’s very busy. Our party wasn’t a walking party as it included two elderly ladies, but they loved the views from the benches. There is ample opportunity to walk and some lovely trails. If you like bird-watching there are lots to see including a resident heron that you can see from the bridge.

Such a beautiful place you can rent bikes to go along the canal also boat trip! Beautiful chipper fab pubs and just beautiful scenery if your looking for a relaxing night away this is it. The staff in water side guest house are absolutely lovely & so helpful! Also the breakfast is amazing. I will continue to come back every year with my children as they love to fish for the Minos in the canal so bring some fishing nets and a bucket for some extra fun.

If you are looking for an escape into the countryside, this is the perfect place. Our host, Mary, was so sweet and eager to accommodate. Room was grand and I was in love with the claw foot tub 😍. The property is beautiful with 4 horses and a cat (there could be more I did not discover) and a cute little walking path to the river. The food!!! Yes. Breakfast was amazing and cooked fresh to what time we chose. And afternoon tea and scones were a bonus.

We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much.

We didn’t expect to love Kilkenny this much. Honestly, we thought it might just be a quick stop between Dublin and Dingle — but wow, this city had other plans. We stayed at the Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel, which turned out to be right in the heart of everything (and dangerously close to several very good pubs). The staff were friendly, the room was great, and the downstairs bar made it a little too easy to “just pop in for one.” The castle is straight out of a storybook, St. Canice’s Cathedral has a tower climb that will either make you feel brave or slightly ridiculous (worth it either way), and Rothe House and the Medieval Mile Museum make history feel alive and oddly relatable. Everywhere we turned there was something beautiful, old, or both. And the pubs — good grief. Every night turned into “just one more pint,” with live music, friendly locals, and that cozy Irish magic that makes you forget what time it is. Kilkenny has this perfect mix of history, charm, and fun. It’s walkable, welcoming, and just the right size to feel like you really got to know it. We left wishing we’d stayed longer — and promising we’ll be back (ideally with stronger pub stamina).

Thomastown was an excellent base for visiting sites in Kilkenny, Dunbrody Famine Ship at New Ross, Waterford Crystal Factory, Hook Lighthouse among others. There are a number of closer places of interest such as Jerpoint Abbey. The only drawback was the lack of options for evening meals although Kilkenny is only a 15 minute drive away and fills the bill perfectly!

I don’t know it as a tourist centre in its own right but it is a reasonable car drive to other sights in the county south of Kilkenny City. It,s a very convenient stop-off on the way to Rosslare evening ferry, with time to visit one or two sights on the way.
