The location was great. Right in the heart of the city. There are lots of attractions nearby by walking distance. There are lots of great restaurants nearby, especially Bartley'z, just in the lobby of the hotel, hairy lemon, and bambino pizza. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Thanks to Carmina (I hope I spelled it correctly) from the front desk, she is very friendly and has amazing communication skills. Special thanks to the breakfast team and specifically Jessica she was awesome every morning and always had a smile on her face and was very professional.

Dunbrody House Hotel is like taki g a step into history. It is full of antique furnishings...beautiful gardens, and with modern accents. The tranquity was wonderful. It was peaceful and quiet, which was just what we wanted. It is set well into quiet parkland and forrest, the birdsong was spectacular. Food was also excellent, and the staff were lovely too. I hadn't been to Kilkenny for a good number of years and I was blown away by how pretty and accessible the town was. We were there at Halloween so it was very atmospheric, ghost tour was great too. There were so many interesting shops and lovely restuarants, Paris Texas was particularly good. ALL the bars were great with music most nights, Fields and Matt Millars were particularly good. I'm thinking of going back again for the christmas markets.

Waterford reminds me of Galway 20 years ago, it's unselfconsciously cool! There's a lovely laid back vibe with friendly locals, great coffee shops, lovely museums and a vibrant culture scene. We were here for the Lit Festival; a super arts event for young people! Waterford is small enough for you to be able to walk around with ease but big enough to be interesting. It's also close to great beaches.

If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not for you. Dundalk is a former railway town, largely built round the (now defunct) works for the GNRI and with much 19th century red-brick architecture. It has a busy high street with a lot of small shops, pubs and restaurants, none are grand, it reminds me of similar towns in the UK before planning blight took hold. A lot of effort seems to have gone into smartening the place up in recent years, which is nice. Would that other towns of its scale have survived so well it would be nothing exceptional, but as so few have, it has a real charm. As a base, it is well sited to explore the countryside around, which has a long and interesting history, with a lot of historic sites.
