Wonderful stay in a wonderful city. A chic hostel, the room is very clean, fragrant. The beds are comfortable, the room is huge, the bathroom is also very large. There is a beautiful terrace for drinking coffee, with a view of Kirkjufell mountain. Our room windows also faced Kirkjufell mountain. The room had a small kitchenette, but everything was enough for us. Grundarfjörður is a wonderful town, we are very happy with both the accommodation and the town.

booked this hotel in a pinch as a local cabin we booked gave us the incorrect pin code to get key from lockbox and their phone went to voice mail so we were stuck with no place to stay the night. luckily this hotel had a family room available so booked it through the app last minute, staff were really helpful and told me to book through app for the discount. tried the restaurant and enjoyed the food, location is beautiful, staff lovely, prices are comparable to most restaurants in Iceland. the room its self was basic but functional, not much in way of decoration, kitchen wasn't really used but nice to have a fridge. Had heard the showers were crap and limited time for hot water, which is why we didnt book this place initially, but found it had enough hot water to shower four people separately no problem so its a non issue. wish I had booked this place initially rather than a local cabin that let us down, we were getting married at Búðakirkja church in the morning so booking this place last minute was a life saver. Safe to say I will never book a non hotel using booking.com again, now i got to fight to get my money back for the cabin i couldn't use.

We had an incredible 2 nights stay at this charming family-run guesthouse. The hosts were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The dinner was delicious and the portion was huge! There were only about 8 to 10 units in the main guesthouse so it was exceptionally quiet and tranquil at all times. I highly recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Apparently there are 2 ways to get to the hotel, both about 2-3km on gravel road but one road is more paved than the other. The one that is less paved is when we google map from direction of the town.

The parking by the fall is expensive at no reason.

The parking by the fall is expensive at no reason. It offers no services, like toilets. If the weather is ok and you like walking, there is a free spot closer to the city, 1mile or 1500m, with a trail to the fall. The fall and the mountain together in a pic are the postcard you imagined.

I’ve stayed here before and always thought the location was magical—the nearby church feels otherworldly! The bar is cozy and a perfect spot for a coffee or a drink, and the restaurant serves a truly delicious dinner. When I stayed a few years ago, I felt the rooms were just okay for the price. But this time, I tried one of the newly renovated rooms, and it was beyond my expectations. The design, comfort, and overall feel completely changed my experience—I went from liking this hotel to absolutely loving it. I highly recommend booking one of the renovated rooms. They’re 100% worth it!

I had an absolutely amazing stay at Hotel Langaholt — everything about it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and down to earth. They made me feel so welcome and even offered me a complimentary upgrade to a newer, more comfortable room. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and had the most breathtaking view of both the glaciers and the beach. The hotel has a lovely, charming atmosphere and is wonderfully peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax. Dinner was a real highlight — the seafood was freshly caught in the area and tasted incredible. Breakfast was just as impressive, with a great selection to start the day right. One of my favorite moments was being able to take a short walk down to the beach after dinner. It was the perfect way to unwind — surrounded by nature, with the sound of the waves and the open Icelandic landscape all around. What really stood out to me, though, was the kindness and flexibility of the staff. They even allowed me a late checkout so I didn’t have to rush in the morning. Every little detail was handled with such care, and the genuine hospitality made all the difference. I can’t recommend Hotel Langaholt enough. It’s a special place that captures the beauty and warmth of Iceland in every way. I will absolutely be back and I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Beautiful, remote yet friendly place. Remarkably helpful tourist centre and well maintained roads and buildings despite remoteness. You need a car to fully experience the place. Come with your food for the stay as no shops in town. Hellesandur and surrounding villages are beautiful. Recommend visiting the spa in olafsvik

The real "secret" (not so secret) highlight of this area is not the church itself but the walks you can do after it towards the dunes and the beach. Just walk a few minutes then turn and look back. you will see the church against a majestic backdrop of mountains, skies and sea.

Grundarfjordur is a convenient town for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has a good grocery store and two excellent cafes for coffee & treats. A little food truck is open until the end of August. We stayed here 4 nights so we would have time to explore and I'm glad we did because one day was too stormy to see sights and another day wasn't optimal.
