FAQs about hotels in Lombardy

Sophisticated and Serene

The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.

The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.

Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.

Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.

Wherever you are staying, Booking.com has a fantastic range of accommodation including B&Bs, apartments and hotels in Lombardy.

We stayed in appartment with sauna and it was one of the best appartments in which we stayed ever. Appartment has sauna, jakuzzi, large terrace with cosy beds and amazing view to the valley! The hotel is clean, highly proffesional and very kind staff, breakfast was very rich and colorful. The hotel fireplace room was very cosy with beautiful view to Livigno.

Amazing room, we got a free upgrade and it was so comfortable and fancy. The restaurants were great - Leone Felice was particularly excellent. The staff were all lovely and so helpful. The facilities were excellent, we loved playing tennis, and using the spa. We had so much fun on the quad bike excursion! Breakfast buffet was great and bar is lovely

The historical and spiritual sites were wonderful!

The historical and spiritual sites were wonderful! The Sforza Castle self guided tour was wonderful and well organised and easy to find. The hop on hop off bus in the city was great- I stayed on and did that tour twice in a row. The Duomo tour and rooftop walk was an absolute highlight and I never thought I would do that- I booked it only the night before- that was a truly incredible experience! I went to a local supermarket and ate some beautiful cheeses, bread and olives with red wine for dinner because I had eaten well whilst out all day. The last nights stay I found a local gorgeous restaurant and ordered a stunning ragu beef pasta to take back to my B&B. The staff there were so friendly even though we didn't speak the same language!

The walled Citta Alta was beautiful, so many things to see like churches, a castle, museums, galleries, squares, cafes, shops, restaurants. The food was out of this world. The lower city is less pretty but has plenty of things to see. There is Serie A football in the city.

You do not need more than 3 days for Como.

You do not need more than 3 days for Como. Spend one day to visit the town and take the funicular. Another day to take a trip on the lake using the ferry and stop maybe at Belagio. The next day you can visit Lugano in Switzerland which is just 40 minutes away by train. Spend the evening eating out in the many restaurants found in the city.

Sirmione is a beautiful location.

Sirmione is a beautiful location. The Roman Villa and the Garda Tours 25 minute boat trip were excellent. The town is very well presented and there are many restaurants. English is widely spoken in the shops and restaurants, so communication is easy. We were there in late October, and the number of visitors was comfortable: a busy vibe but not heaving. I can imagine that it would be very busy in summer.

Hotel easy to find although there was some confusion at the airport as to where the free airport shuttle bus left from but perhaps the driver was just having an off day. The room was well equipped and spacious but we had no hot water in the morning. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Staff were very helpful and friendly

Really easy to get to from Verona airport.

Really easy to get to from Verona airport. Beautiful views of the Lake and quick to get to Sirmione which is stunning but can get really busy with tourists. Desenzano town is lovely, lots of eateries, pretty streets, friendly people and beautiful views. The market on a Tuesday was really good, nice to walk around. Many things eg the castle etc are closed on a Monday. I was there 2.5 days which felt enough for me. This included a day in Sirmione. I explored the main sites and then spent a day in Verona on the way home, well worth a day trip or visit.

Tirano is a small town which has everything, largely because of its location and the Religious tourism generated by the shrine and cult of Our Lady of Tirano. An excellent base to explore the area with frequent rail connections to Switzerland and Italy. Plenty of places to eat well and inexpensively.

Having spent 311 nights in Limone you must understand that we like it and the surrounding north Lake Garda area. Last year it was selected as the most superb flower decorated town in Italy and at the international competition won the top five 'petals' in it's category of small resorts. The winter population is 1200 people but usually busy with visitors from the end of April till mid October. The only criticism this year is that I detected a cigarette end on some steps! Standards are slipping but the Mayor, Il Sindaco, was quite distressed. If in doubt just go and you will not be disappointed.
